What jobs will a CK35HST do better than a CK27? I'm "this" close to making a purchase

This will be my first tractor.

So with the CK27HST pushing 20.5HP to the PTO is there anything it cant do that a CK35HST can? Can I run the same implements (Snow Blower, Wood Chipper) or are there implements which will need that extra 6.5HP from the CK35HST.

Also I have a long hard clay and gravel driveway, will I get bogged down a lot sooner if at all?

I'm seriously really close to making a final decision and every dollar I can save the better but I don't want to end up with a LOT less than if I had just spent a little more.

Thanks.

Typically you can run about a foot wider PTO implement with that extra 6.5 HP. If you already have the implement, then that extra HP will allow you to run faster without bogging down. Everything can be done with the CK27 vs the CK35, just slower, about 30% slower. If time is of no consequence, then the 27 should be fine. If you can swing the 35, that would be the way that I would go. Don't know of to many people complaining about having too much HP. There are plenty that complain about not having enough. I go by the rule of get the maximum HP for the particular frame size, hard to go wrong IMO.

Good luck. ;)

If the CK35 were available when I bought my CK30 back in 2005, I would have bought it, even
if it cost $1K more, or $1500 more. $2K, maybe not.

Do I feel limited by my 30hp? Perhaps only when I want to go faster in High range, driving up
my 13% private road. I never use my HST High, due to the limited power.

I suspect that the CK35 would be less likely to bog down when I run my backhoe at lower
RPMs, too.

Here's the contrarian opinion. I've got them both. I will use whichever one is more handy. The 27 hp is hardly ever that short of power that its worth taking an implement off the 34 hp tractor. Obviously if they were the same price go for more hp, but there is a limit to the extra cost that you should pay for the 7 more hp.

I dont think that there is a sufficient difference in the two models to make a purchase. I originally had an '04 CK25, which I ran a 68" pull type snowblower in winter. It worked ok but was minimally underpowered. I upgraded to a '13 CK35 in Feb. What I discovered, is the newer quick attach loader on the CK35 had less actal breakout capability than my CK25 did. As well, it felt slower when lifting heavier weight.

My solution was to talk with my dealer, his original advice was to have me relearn how to use this loader. We talked some more about options and he agreed to take the CK35 back and deliver a DK40 in its place. 2 1/2 times the loader capability, 10" - 12" longer and 9" wider. Couple grand difference.

I figured I will own this thing for a long time, dont want to fight with an "underpowered" loader for 10 years. Just something to think about.

I found high range almost useless on my CK 30, but that may not be a concern for you, I did (and still do) a lot of road travel. Everything else should be fairly similar. Money wise, there was never much diff. between the 27 & 30 which is why I bought the 30, but a big difference in price to move up to the 35. The price of the CK35 is just to close to the price of the DK 40 so for my money, I'd do the CK 30 or DK40. There is a massive difference between the CK and DK lines in capability, features and technology and not that big a difference in price. I have to say there is move value for the dollar in the DK. I also only have 3 acres and don't find my DK to big.

I have a CK25. But, to maximize the power I went with a gear tranny. In my case, the CK25 has never left me wanting more power. It is every bit as good as any of the CK's for digging and earth moving. I've pulled a 1000 lb gannon boxblade with great effect, dug hundreds of feet of trenches with my 7.5' backhoe, and moved well over 1000 tons of dirt, rock, gravel, mulch, and horse manure.

I don't do a lot of PTO work. I think my PTO power is like 21.5 or 22.5 HP or there abouts. Though I have used a post hole digger quite a bit and a 5" chipper on the PTO without any issues.

If I were going HST, I'd get the CK35. But, I think the CK27 in gear is about the same tractor power wise (minus the HST, of course). Those to me are the sweet spots in the CK line: CK27 gear or CK35 HST. I'm dumbfounded that Kioti has decided to drop the gear in the CK27. I do love HST, but have come to like the shuttle shift almost as well. Fine position adjustment is the only time I wish for HST.

Thanks everyone, I'm heading to the dealership this weekend to do some test driving. I think I will try (if available) geared CK27, CK35HST and a geared DS4110.

Thanks again for the info.

I'd take the 35 over the 27 all other things being equal.
Tractors are the same chassis, size and weight, only differing in how much power the engine puts out.
