What kind of vintage car do you wish you had?

I wouldn't mind a Nash Metropolitan to play around with... I think it would be fun with a Ford turbo 2.3L and some updating here and there...
No...keep it all stock. I've had mine 45 years.

It’s a long-standing debate. John North Willys pronounced his name Willis (rhymes with ‘hiss’ ). Supposedly he told his salesmen at Willys-Overland they could pronounce it any way they liked as long as his product was selling.

In another commercial the narrator pronounces the company as Willis (hiss) but the various models as Willeez, as in Willis-Overland makes the Willeez pickup.

Jethro to the.rescue! I never thought I'd get closure on this. Good work.

As much as the completely stock showroom condition thing is great and I appreciate it, that's not how I roll or how much I'm willing to spend on a project... My budget is usually around a roller with lacking interior without engine or transmission... Plus we're living in theoretical land in this thread :)

That is a sweet looking car! I don't know why I like them, I think it's something to do with granny in the tweety cartoons in the 90's... that and I like small and obscure stuff...

That said, sometime in the near future a '67 Mustang coupe is going to migrate to my shop, it's not stock or perfect so I don't feel bad about doing small stuff to it... I conveniently have a '97 Mercury Mountaineer sitting out back with a 302 and 4R70W that would make a nice driver out of the mustang...

Thanks 2 Lane,
Pronunciations are a funny thing. In the 60s when our local weather man did a commercial for the Renault DauphIne automobile. He pronounced every letter in Renault just like it's spelled. Today, I only hear "Reno".
I have heard the Renault called a lot of things; most of which were not very flattering. In fact, I think I have only seen one of two that were under their own power; most had somebody pushing the darn things.

What I remember about those is there was an abandoned rail siding, crossed by a street at an angle. A little Renault was the only car I ever heard that got flipped over crossing the track too fast. Handling? What's that? :)

At one point my Dad needed a small water-cooled engine for some project or other. So he bought a running fully intact Renault Dauphine for $20. It was only a few years old but nobody wanted them even then. We cut up the whole thing with a torch in a day or so, except for the engine, which I recall was 850cc.

I bought a Renault Dauphine about 50 years ago from a friend who ran a lawnmower shop. He replaced the carb with a lawnmower carb. It would only go about 60 mph and we had to go up bridges in 2nd gear but it would run for a week on a gallon of gas. We never were able to check the exact mileage because neither the gas gauge or the odometer worked.

It was so light I could lift one of the front wheels off the ground. We got rid of it after it hit a pothole and tore the whole front end up.

But the horn worked great, beep beep bomp bomp.

What's funny is Metropolitans were sold as a cheap second car, something to run to the grocery store (not fast since 74 mph top speed!).
The public likes them at car shows, but people showing their "real cars" don't.
They're a chick magnet also because they're cute. Easy to wrench on if you have Whitworth tools.

My current "vintage" car is a 2013 MX-5 GT special edition. Tons of fun for a good price.

Wish I had my 69 ford bronco and the sunbeam tiger back !

I knew I shouldn't of sold them back then...
