For me, any member here who doesn't provide their real name or hides behind a false alias is usually dismissed straight out as a troll, fake or flake. More so if they hide behind a facade of where they live, ie: "anywhere and everywhere" or those who claim to have "any number of tractors", etc. Those here who put an honest name and their own face and location on TBN will have more credibility to me than a hundred trolls or fakes combined. Too bad TBN does NOT require something like Facebook registration to qualify for membership here.

Personally, I NEVER use my real name, location, or post identifiable pictures of myself online. If that makes you think of me as a "troll, fake or flake" then so be it, because I have absolutely no intention of putting myself at risk from any number of unknown dangers.

Besides, even if I did use a "name" and a "location", how would you know that I was not making it up? For example: Facebook may require people to use their real name to register, but many people do not, myself included.

It really depends on the content of their threads over a period of time. You'll know soon enough if they're a faker, troll or full of bull.

Although I use my real name, I do understand why others want to maintain their anonymity (mostly because they're wanted criminals...)

They figure that 28% of face book profiles are fake. I have three..:p

There is real risk unfortunately, as that is now the society that we live in. Some of us attempt to manage that risk and a reason why I don't have a Facebook account. We are very fast entering a new era of too much information including Google Earth and others.

I respect your willingness to be wide open but someone else may not show that same respect whereby you have subjected yourself to more risk than you wish. It's too bad but too real.

Wait for the day when you can tie my TBN account to Facebook to a bank account to a SSN to google earth to your job to your family ... There's no end. No need to get worried, just be cautious.

I don't participate in Facebook, Linkedin, or any similar mainstream social media. Any such requirement here will end my participation immediately. Not that I would be missed terribly, I'm sure.

I agree with MasseyWV.

For those who have remote farmland with equipment, it is particularly foolish to post identifiable information that could be used as a road-map for thieves.
