What makes a TBN members input LESS credible to you?

If it were safe to do so, I'd love nothing better than to use my real name and location on TBN. While I'm primarily here to talk about tractors, that doesn't mean that I wouldn't like to make some friends along the way. Heck, I'd even have a cookout and invite everyone to my home, for no other reason than to shoot the bull and get to know people. :)

Agree completely. Been in agriculture for most of my life and in the computer world for over 25 years. It became pretty easy to tell which hay buyers would bounce a check after talking to them face to face. Online, you have no idea what kind of person is on the keyboard trying to get bits and pieces of information out of you. You would not believe how many "educated" people have been taken by internet scams that I have worked with. Multiply that by thousands, and you will quickly see why aliases on-line are important. Don't facebook, don't tweet, and never will. Younger people wonder why their house or apartment was robbed?? Just follow their tweets. I'll stop there.

Very well said by you two. I have a Facebook, but I rarely post on it, believe the last was 2 or 3 years ago. I have one picture with a group of people and all of my information is locked. I still don't like the idea, and I have a lot of friends who post everywhere and everything they do and I think to myself that it will bite them one day. It sure would be great if we could be open with all the online buddies, but sorry - I don't trust you!!

Sorry for getting off track:ashamed:

Makes me miss the "old days" of phonebooks on every public phone booth and "party lines" and stopping to offer assistance at roadside vehicles.

I always got a kick out of my buddy's name "Mike Smith". Had to be five pages of them but then again "Baker" had quit a few. Still do not feel a need to hide but do not advertise either (what fancy equpment/tools I own) and I keep track of what needs to be protected with the security available to me(just like the old days of walking on the street side of your date).

Between cell phone tower tracking and geotracking on pictures and let alone MI State Police able to clone your phone at a traffic stop a year before we knew about it last year, you can only fool yourself in security. Get out the tin foil hats....

Are you guys saying that you would not meet in person with someone from the site? I belong to metalmeet.com, a site dedicated to meeting up with others and working on sheet metal mostly for street rods and custom cars. I have never heard of a single bad experience by anyone meeting people on the site. I have made a lot of friends and learned a lot by attending my first metalmeet a couple weeks ago. Dispite societal norms there are still a lot of good people out there. And I find that good people are highly concentrated in my areas of interst: painting, metal shaping, and farming.

Roy you are one of the people I trust MOST OF ALL here on TBN....too bad more of the members don't have your credibility.

I've got to show this to my wife...she'd never believe me if I told her...she'd just roll her beady little eyes and say "That's incredible!!! Everybody knows you're fulla sh*t!! And, take off that stupid hat!!!"

Under the right circumstances, and if the appropriate safety precautions were taken, sure I would consider meeting people from TBN.

Otherwise, I agree that there are a lot of good people out there, but the trick is distinguishing the good ones from the bad ones, which is often more difficult than it seems. Wolves love to wear sheeps clothing, and people who seem like they are the pinnacle of good can often be the worst among us.

Most TBN members don't use Facebook. We did some test campaigns to promote our FB page and almost nobody "liked" it.

In all honestly, your facebook page was pretty bad. I liked it, but have never been back because there isn't any reason to.

I have quite a few friends from here on facebook. For me, it's proven a way to get to know some friends a lot better then I have on here.

What does credibility have to do with sticking on one topic? If TBN was only about tractors, nobody would stick around here for more then a year. Tractors are great, and we all have that in common, but once you get a tractor, what you do with it, where you live and how you make a living become a lot more interesting then discussing tractors.

Ask this one question to everybody on here who has a tractor, how many have owned multiple brands?

Since a VERY few have any experience with anything other then what they have, just about all their opinions are biased and severely limited in what they are qualified to reply to.

I tend to agree. Belonging to a forum dedicated to a specific forum, can somewhat be compared to attending a BBQ with friends and associates. People come to a BBQ to enjoy the food, camaraderie and the conversation that ensues. If everyone in attendance talked only about one specific topic, the event would probably becoming boring after awhile. Just my thoughts. BTW, I have sincerely enjoyed TBN, and I have gained quite a bit of knowledge. I also truly enjoy the various other threads and posts that involve topics that affect our everyday lives.
