Thanks for the warning, I'll need to bump up my settings.

Actually some of my best friends are liberal Democrats...oh who am I kidding.

Seriously I like to stay away from politics as much as possible on TBN, there is a different forum for those discussions for those interested. I may kid around about it, but don't take anything I say seriously.

She's got guns, TripleR...that's a start.
She and her hubby really need an AR-15 or two out there in the wilds of Washington state, don't ya think?

It sure is Roy; didn't think you could own AR-15s on the left coast.

My brother worked for DOD in California just north of San Fransisco for thirty years and moved back here upon retirement; couldn't believe all the neat things he could own and how easy it was to just buy a gun.

Thanks for the links Lady Tonka, some great stuff had not heard of the resilient gardener, might have to order it.

Do you think the permies.com will let an old red neck join in:) That looks like a great forum.

Also got tipped off to a pretty cool permaculture workshop in Homer this summer, wish it wasnt in the middle of fishing season:(

Somewhere I had a thread a little about life out here but am not much of a writer or picture taker, when my wife shows up in August she is shudder happy and I will add on a bunch of her pics.

FWIW, Greenie and Lib Democrat are not synonymous. I'm a rather conservative Christian Constitutionalist-Libertarian, live off-grid and am quite "green" in many ways in personal life. I like how this forum has many sorts of people.

And for all you East Coaster's: West Coast is not California. Here in our portion of Southern Oregon, we have our guns.

Here an interesting anecdote: There is so little law in our county that heroin dealers get a ticket in the Walmart parking lot and just go back to dealing. I heard that an armed home invader was caught in the act and cited but released -- he was caught again the same day, doing the same thing, and was released again. There's no money for law enforcement, no DA, and no staffing for the jail. This just happened in the past month because of loss of federal funding from logging in our county. The "Castle Doctrine" is close to our hearts around here, LadyTonka, et al. :)

P.S. Welcome to the forum, BTW, Lady Tonka! We need a few more women here!

Thank you for the welcoming words, Schweizer! I, too, like reading the different viewpoints on each thread and usually gain some insights each time. Getting back to the OP's thread title, I would be inclined to bypass reading posts that seem to have an agenda that precludes civil discourse because, for me, there's not a lot of credibility if the poster is on a soapbox.

Sounds like the Grants Pass we moved away from in the Eighties. I can't even imagine, with the collapse of the logging industry and the rampant meth use in the area, what conditions are like now. :( What is that famous saying that underscores the need for personal protection in a depressed economy? "Remember, when seconds count, the police are just minutes away." (And that's not intended as any slur on the impossible job LEOs have to do.)
