I keep running across lots of praise for the Farmpro line of tractors. What makes them so good? Afterall they are Jinmas are they not?

well---here,s my 2 cents--I,ve got 2425 farm pro (jimna 254) and it,s 2 years old. It,s not a fancy machine. It has a front loader (zl 20) and AG tires.I,ve scooped out ditches, pulled logs, pushed and pulled many many big honeysukle. I put a pole-hoist setup on the loader and set 6/6 beams and all the truses on two pole barns. It justs keeps on going. I have about 300 hours on and still starts and runs good. The best thing is ---the price----half the price of thetop machines and basically does the same job.

Interesting, I've never run across a lot of praise for the FarmPro - or aren't you talking about the Homier line of FarmPro? Cuz Homier simply isn't set up for service-after-sale. Replacement parts by phone, yes. But fixing it for you? Uh-uh.

That said, there are some independent dealers that have recently picked up selected models from the FarmPro line. It's easier when one big outfit does the importing, then jobs off to resellers. The independents can give you limited availability AND (usually) service after sale.

Other than that, a Jinma is a Jinma is a Jinma - no matter what the decals say.

I think Farmpro also carries the Foton tractors as well as Jinmas.

The big difference is the warranty. This has been good and bad. the good is that buyers get a real parts and labor limited warranty administered by Fail Safe. The bad is the tractors can be higher priced than at an independet dealer who imports his own inventory. Farm Pro does have an extensive parts inventory, but contact necessary to get those parts remains difficult, There has been quite a bit of turnover within the organization over the last year or so. They have not done the best job of selecting or qualifyind dealerships and have suffered as a result of sub standard dealers. If you have a good dealer with a good reputation to deal with, it will not matter a lot if it is Farm Pro or some other name on the hood as Greg said.

I will say that Farm Pro played a big part in the jump in quality that occured a few years back in the Jinma tractor. At that time they were importing something like 5000 to 7000 a year and they held up on a large order pending some comittment from the factory for quality improvements. I have not had a lot of assembly issues on the farm pro tractors we have handled.

Farm Pro has lost a lot of dealers over the last year or two which I attribute to the comptetitive nature of the business, (this is not an easy money business), pricing and to some extent, internal communications issues.

They may be one of the larger firms selling them.. but not sure about 'best'.

I'd look at northeren as another large sell.. that may have better service after sale.. etc.. at a loss of economy.. etc.

Naw, same as Homier. They sell 2nd party warranty service. And just like Homier, complaints are rampant about getting parts over the phone.

These mass market types are all hype, suckering in the gullible. Independent dealers - ideally local - are the way to go.

Greg, I would take that one step further to include dealers that have a shop, know the difference between a shuttle clutch and hydrostatic transmission, and stock parts. I'm beginning to see "dealers" popping up in this neck of the woods operating out of their front yards and barns that don't even know what they're selling (I'm referring to whoever sold it to this guy). This one blew me away. To wit:

2003 Jinma Dozer 6 way blade steel tracks

Whereas I had hoped that point would have been self-evident - especially since I was addressing service after sale - I guess I could have said full service dealer.

But I don't read that advert the same way as do you. What I see is a fella selling a used dozer, with a disclaimer that he doesn't want to be contacted for excavation work.
