I read a thread that shows where to put the block heater. I removed the plug and there is no room to insert a typical heater. The picture on the forum shows a bolt on type of heater just above the oil filter but nothing is said about the type and model of the heater that will fit this configuration. It seems that an adapter is needed that will fit in the hole with an o-ring. I assume that is the heater screws into that adapter. If so what is the part number for that and does MF had that part? Thanks, Barry

Yes, M-F has a heater (made in Canada) that will fit right in there- the heating element is bent over to fit, and comes with its own o-ring. Its pricey, between $125 and $145! But it's made for that tractor and fits & works well. Call your dealer and ask.

Or, you could purchase a "universal" type that would fit into one of the radiator hoses (lower, I think) for considerably less money, then cut the hose & install it with clamps.

Thanks for your reply. That is a ridiculous price for a heater. I took the freeze plug out and found there is not enough room for a typical bent element heater. The bracket that I saw in the picture must provide an extension to allow a heater to fit.

2007 Honda Accord uses a straight element 28mm threaded heater. I have a lathe and milling machine and I think I will make an adapter. If it is easy to do I think I will make a bunch of them and offer them to the MF owners. That would beat the MV price by a lot especially when one needed a replacement.

The Honda part number at O'Riley is Zerostart 3100006 at 38.99 USD + tax.
Jegs is 555-51127 is 34.99 USD + shipping.

Have you shopped around for that heater?? The one for our 1635 was only $50, same for the 1523 heater.

Anyone who figures out how to beat the $125 cost of a GC block heater, will be the first here to do so. There is no known simple work around for the average owner, short of the aforementioned hose heater.

razzbarry, you should get used to the idea of parts being very expensive. Parts, for any brand of sub compact tractor, are generally 2-3 times what a similar part would cost for an automobile.

Yeah, sorta like an airplane, huh!

State-of-the-art GPS for a car.... maybe $100? (I don't have one)
Used 6+ yr-old technology GPS for airplane.... $800 (New ones $2000+)

Annual inspection for car...$50 (NH)
Annual inspection for airplane...$500-$2000 (and up!)

Yeah, I know, you can't exactly pull over and stop in an airplane if you have a problem.... I'm just getting used to these sort of prices; makes GC parts look downright cheap!

New replacement airplane part, with required paperwork, 5-10x automotive part. Occasionally, it's even the same part as the one used on a car, or tractor. The best part is, mechanically, it's almost all 50 year old technology.

ray66v, I figured out a way to put in a heater for $41.00. I used a 2007 Honda Accord 3.0L engine heater, a 28mm x 1mm 400w screw in heater. As I alluded to, I have a small machine shop in my basement. I built the parts from stuff laying around the shop. I build a separate plug that fits in the freeze plug hole that the heater screws into and a bracket that bolts into the block to hold the adapter in the hole. All I am out is the time, about 6 hours. I don't have any blue prints of the engine so I had to reverse engineer the parts and go slowly to make sure they fit. They fit the first go. I haven't tested it yet. That will happen today.

Cool, please post some photos, or drawings of your adapter for educational purposes.

$41 + 6 hrs. labor= a trip to the MF dealer to buy one for $125. :D

Sorry, it's got to be a fix that basically everyone can do, to win the contest.

I was not trying to win a contest, I didn't even know there was one. I just did not want to spend that much on a part when I could build it. I can post pictures and an AutoCAD drawing of it if someone can tell me how to post files to the forum.
