Buying Advice What older model Fords would you look for (40-80hp)?

Just a quick thought based of your take on the 6600 is to keep LOOKING at that price.

Ford did always import a lot of tractors and that is OK but the older and less cared for any machine is the less the value in my book.

If you think you can do the needed repairs yourself that would be different.

Too bad you did not find it from the son.

Update us on what you decide after you learn more.

I did see a 255 MF with a MF FEL of that era go for about $5500 on Ebay that seemed to be OK for an older tractor but there was not bush hog.

Also.. if you don't like the idea of a trans shift lever between your legs.. ( at the tranny).. then you need to look for a TOTALLY different class of machine.

Just as a note I tend to fall in love with "project" class old equipment.

What have I learned (but not applied) is that it is cheaper to pay 2x more.

If center mounted gear shifts are an issue, you may want to look at the Ford-New Holland 4835, 5635, or 6635. These are flat deck or platform tractors, precursors to the TL series. Also consider the Ford 5640 and 6640, I believe they are also flat deck.

Early 6610 7610 etc could have column shift like this rubik cube and the better H-pattern on the column as well as floor shift before they moved the sticks to the side of the seat.

I'm with you in that I can see "the end result" in the project (and maybe even sometimes purposely look for a fixer upper), but sometimes fail to see the expense of getting it where I want it. Partly why I am treading lightly as I enter into this (still have a barn to build and other expenses, so I don't want to soak up every excess dollar and run myself into debt). Especially if I do end up putting a lot of time, money and effort into it, I want it to be a tractor I really want to keep. While it's probably really more tractor than I need, I really like the look of the 7710s...

I have discovered when I dive off head first I tend to learn more than planned.

To prepare the building sight for a shop I needed the equipment so I do not have a place to work on it which is not good. I am looking at getting a portable build 12x24 with a big door in one end and a walking in door so I have a place to put stuff when I tear down what is in the only real building spot I have.

check out metal buildings.. I had a 52x30 metal barn put up for half the price of a stick and siding 24x30 garage.. and the metal building went up in about 4 hours...

If you have any suggestions for barns I'd love to hear them, too. I can't believe how much they want for what seems like not very sturdy buildings around here. I've almost decided just to put up a simple steel truss without sides to keep the cost down and finish it later if I decide, too. What does your metal building look like?

That is nice. Ours will be right by the house and if we go metal I think I will go with the vertical look for the roof with eves to match better.

I need a work shop and coverage. Carolina Carports have a tall building with sheds so I could enclose one of the sheds and have the center for the MH if not fulltime at least for service especially the roof AC's. The more open the bigger I can go because we can pass through it if needed and not box us in so in the meantime.

Those one are loaders are really neat. They were the quick connect of their day.

I did a little research and the 7710 I'm looking at has a Super Q cab. Is A/C only installed in it as an option, or will it always have it, or is it something you can add later? If it has the Super Q cab is the 7710 really a 7710 II?
