what on earth does electricity cost near you?

Month in and month out right around 12 kWh per day or 360 a month… 2400 square feet 4 bedroom and 3 bath.

Just got April bill. $128.44 for 801KW, includes a $39.00 monthly customer charge.

My heat and water heat are gas, but we still used 2117 kwh last month. And no ac in use. I blame the wife. Has tack room heated, running grow lights for her garden starts, had water troughs heated until last month. The amount used this month will be alot less. But having a 4,000 sf house sucks some power. And im mostly led lights now.

Not trying to be a wise guy, but wood poles, actually are cheap. The absolute cheapest.
Hence, we have so many disruptive outages, which wouldn’t have happened if more money was spent on buried lines

I talked to one of my nephews recently, He lives in Peach Tree City, GA. He said all the utilities in his neighborhood are under ground, but he still has regular power outages during storms, who would have thought that!

My Feb. electric bill from Public Service of Oklahoma was $58.54 for 322 KWh of electric, including taxes and fees. Not too bad compared to many of you!.
We are building a new place in North central Arkansas, there we will be totally off grid, too much hassle to bring electric in from the road. Entergy wanted us to clear a 30 foot path, to the sky, to run the poles through. We are in a heavily wooded area, isolating us from neighbors and road noise, don't want to have a big scar between us and the highway, so we bit the bullet paying a little over $60k for the solar, inverters, controllers, batteries and propane generator to charge the batteries when the sun fails to do it's job. The whole shebang. Not cost effective compared to local utility rates, but somethings are worth more than money!

My father said similar things... back in the 60s all the rooms in our house had indirect lighting, which, at the time, were 60W in incandescent bulbs. The living room alone had 28 of them, along with a few table lamps. My mom had a habit of walking into a room, turning all the lights on, then moving on to the next room. She said she didn't like a dark house. My dad would follow her along and turn them off.

Only in office buildings….at least when i was still wiring commercial and residential. But the law did change a few years ago that required a neutral wire run to all switch locations in residential wirings…. In preparation for future occupancy sensor installs.

But those switches tend to shut down if someone is not moving too much or is slightly blocked from sensor. I have had lots of complaints about them over the years. I would not want them in my home office for instance……might tend to make me fall asleep.
