For work, I wear Red Wings, but if I'm on the tractor or zero turn mower, I'm usually in flip flops. Why do you need steel toed boots to operate a tractor?

For me it all depends on the weather and what I'm doing.

If you have a Real tractor (one that could crush your foot), I recommend steel toed work boots with a slight, hard heel. You need the toes and heel to do some kicking when hooking up implements and rolling the machine or attachment whe hooking them up. Also when you might drop something on it (like the tongue of a trailer, or something else heavy and awkward. By all means something waterproof and loose enough to pull off if you get caught in or by something and you don't want to lose a leg or foot in the deal.

Now, what kind a neck ties do you fellers wear? String, bow, narrow, wide, tye dyed, silk, cotton or bolo?

I wear the steel toe ones from WalMart that cost around $40 but I try to get them when they are on sale for around $25. I coat them water-proofing. They work just fine and last as long as any other ones I have tried.

Since I do work that requires me to be on my knees part of the time, I find the top of the toes on "expensive" shoes wear out just as fast as the less pricey ones.

Of course, I will add that I live in Florida and the cold is not a factor so I don't need insulated ones.

Red Wing makes a pull on boot that has a composite sole with cork in it that is extremely comfortable. They discontinued this boot several years ago, or at least tried to. However, it was just too popular in Texas so they now make two runs of this boot every year and all go to stores in Texas. Mostly larger stores. I have found it at stores in Austin, New Braunfels, San Antonio. They were sold out in Corpus last time I was looking. I am sure there would be stores in the Houston area that have them when available.

I'll try to get the model off the label and post it here. Really good boots. Simple design but very well made.

Looking for some work boots or steel toe shoes to tractor and work in. What are your favorite tractor shoes? Right now I just tractor in walking shoes but I don't think that is really safe. I know I should get some steel toe shoes. Looking at these, anyone have experience with this brand.

Don't quite understand the need for safety shoes/boots when running a tractor. The only time I wear any boots is if it's muddy out. I usually wear my street sneakers or take my shoes off in the tractor. Hot feet are uncomfortable.

All my tractors are 'real' as in heavy but I'd have to be pretty foolish to get my foot under a tire and if I did, I suspect the tire would roll right over me. Been running big 'real' tractors for 30 years and I've never been in a foot compromising situation.

I don't wear the work boots because I think the tractor is so dangerous that it could run over my foot while I am sitting ion the seat.

However, like another poster said, when changing 3-pt devices, I may need to kick something and the work boots do this better then sneakers or dress shoes.

When I am using the FEL, I may need to get off the tractor and chain something to the bucket or various other tasks that require I walk in weeds and brush or soft dirt. I would rather not fill my shoes with all sorts of debris, so work boots come in handy for this also.

We also have a sub-frame BH. This requires me to change seats to dig and move th tractor. Wearing work boots for this is nice since there is usually quite a bit of soft dirt between the back seat and the tractor seat.

I could probably name many other reasons I wear the work boots for the tractor work - many of the for convenience and not necessarily for safety. But, with the steel-toed work boots on, my feet are a bit safer
