There's been a lot of debate on this but few pieces of real data from actual users. I've easily run a 1953 JD 14T with a Yanmar 220D (22 hp) It did not have live power or a 2 stage clutch either. Worked very well on flat ground, not pulling wagons or any other loads. I got nice 40 lb square bales from a mix of grass, timothy , clover and some alfalfa. Did not buck or strain: kept both knives sharp and driveline at recommended height and length and single windrow. No matter what 'they' say, I did it for several seasons, enough to buy a bigger (heavier) tractor. The baler was heavier than the tractor by a lot.
