What size Baler can the FORD 2000 GAS TRACTOR PULL

Does anyone know what size baler a Ford 2000 gas tractor can pull it has 36 horse power so they say

Not a lot. AFAIK, all modern small square balers require a MINIMUM of 35HP at the PTO. Your tractor just doesn't have that much.
If you can find an older small square baler, it might work if you don't crowd it.

A friend has three fords in this size range and a diesel Oliver 1600 to run the New Holland square baler. If the small Fords would work he would not have gone larger. Also has a larger White Field Boss for running a JD round baler.

There's been a lot of debate on this but few pieces of real data from actual users. I've easily run a 1953 JD 14T with a Yanmar 220D (22 hp) It did not have live power or a 2 stage clutch either. Worked very well on flat ground, not pulling wagons or any other loads. I got nice 40 lb square bales from a mix of grass, timothy , clover and some alfalfa. Did not buck or strain: kept both knives sharp and driveline at recommended height and length and single windrow. No matter what 'they' say, I did it for several seasons, enough to buy a bigger (heavier) tractor. The baler was heavier than the tractor by a lot.

As long as that tractor is a 6 speed tranny or a 8 speed tranny then you can easily square bale with that tractor. If its a 4 speed tranny you will find 1st gear is way fast for baling. Not impossible to bale with the 4 speed tranny but not ideal either (windrow size will need to be carefully made).

Hours worth on reading on this subject on this site (as well as Yesterday's tractor). The key is picking the right size baler to put behind your little ford. Just like putting a trailer behind a 1/2 ton truck with a v-6 motor or a 1 ton truck with a big diesel in it. Both trucks will pull a trailer just maybe not the same trailer. If you looking for something cheap then balers that will be the best fit will be 45 years old or more so you better like to tinker.

used a 1978 2600 ford gas tractor 32 hp. 8 speed with live pto and a 1960 super 68 new holland square hay baler for around 15 years. used 2nd and 3rd gears mostly. i had plenty of power for this baler. still have the baler and tractor but dont use either one very much.

You can run any 14"x18" small square baler with that tractor. Available HP will dictate the baler's capacity. More HP available = more throughput. Your available HP will limit how much hay you can crowd through a baler.

I've pulled a JD 214 sq baler with a JD BO that only had 14 HP. Back when JD sq balers had 2 or 4 cyl Wisconsin engines IIRC the 2 cyl was 18 HP & 4 cyl engine was 26 HP.

I have a 4 cyl '63 2000D with a 4 speed tranny and tranny driven PTO. I have baled with a JD 14 as I recall with twine; been a long time. I forget the exact JD model number but TX Jim can help. Also he will also probably know the dimensions of those bales. As I recall not as big as 14 x16s I had with a Ford baler later....pulled by a larger tractor. I do know the 14 was replaced later with a 24. Not sure if it is the 214 he mentions in another answer.

The terrain was slow rolling and it worked ok and got the job done. Nothing outstanding about the performance.
