What size gooseneck trailer?

I've just been thinking about tractor weight but you're right on about that, sd455dan.

yeah For some reason? every time i had to haul the ford or rhino the darn things ended up with something attached to the 3 point:D

seriously tho I have to wonder where these GVWR come from (I know the manufacturer) but why is it so hard to find a hard # for the the individual trucks -like on the same sticker the GVWR is on ,and I personally believe there should be a 5thwheel# , goose neck # and a conventional # right on the sticker...on any HD rated truck imo

and I also think- as apparently Dodge and GM maybe Ford to- that there are allowances to be made for towing with GN or 5th wheel trailers on some 3/4 to 1 tons (engine, trans differences)

That MAY be more about warranty- and the manufacturer has to consider short haul- the same as driving across the continent
these trucks share the same hd brakes hd frames, hd full floater rear axles, hd front axles, hd springs, e rated tires (starting to sound like the thread on Rental Yards only allowing 3/4 and 1 tons to haul) but as has implied the tow rating or GCWR is written in stone but if in stone ) why do the county, state have no problem ..Legally licensing the truck /trailer - in my case 26,000lbs. and my truck is only GVWR at 9900lbs. 700 more than your truck
One more question how far -on relatively flat roads are you actually planning to tow your tractor/equipment??

Around here we fill our rears with Windshield Washer Fluid. I get it at a supply company for $38 per 55 gallon drum. Use my lawn sprayer and a special valve to pump it in.

Chris

Nothing wrong with washer fluid, it's definitely cheaper than rim guard but def not as heavy. Water is around 8.314lbs/gal where rim guard is around 10.7-11lbs/gal. rimguard faq Doesn't sound like much until you start getting into larger tractor tires and it adds a lot more weight. Hence why I mentioned that with my 16.9-24 tires I'mlooking at somewhere around 800lbs per tire without wheel weights. We fill the lawn mower tires with washer fluid as soon as we get one. It makes a big difference in the winter time with the snow blower on for my parents.

also after re reading one of your posts that you already have the factory temp gauge that makes me think your truck may also have the extra cooler for the transmission already installed -I would look and see...

There is some type of cooler in front of the radiator, can't tell where it went to but its about 4-5" tall and 1' long.

That sounds about right.. some add on units are a little longer say 18"
Also are you planning on pulling that tractor/trailer long distances,or just local??

The dealership is 35-40 miles away and that would be the farthest I would ever need to go. No interstate, just fairly flat, state highway with a 55mph speed limit. Arkansas has plenty of mountainous roads but I live in an area that just has some rolling hills, nothing big enough where I'll be traveling to slow you down much. I'm not too worried about being above legal on the weights but on the other hand I don't want to be grossly unsafe either.

My manual makes no mention of a GCWR that I can find. Just a "max trailer weight" It says:

"How heavy can a trailer safely be? It depends on how you plan to use your rig."

However it goes on to say:

"Max trailer weight is calculated assuming the driver and one passenger are in the tow vehicle and it has all the required trailering equipment. The weight of additional optional equipment, passengers and cargo in the tow vehicle must be subtracted from the maximum trailer weight."

sd455dan, Also the manual says an Engine Oil Cooler is required on C/K -2500 models with the Vortec 6000 engine, so that may be what it is too. I didnt take time to trace the lines.

Isn't it strange that, the combined weight isn't actually on the vehicle decal. My dodge the place I found the 5th wheel rating was in an advertisement. Dodge uprates the ratings when the hitch is over the axle and I think GM does to.
just wish we could find some verifiable #s for your truck/proposed trailer
well having an extra oil cooler for the engine is also a good idea
sounds like the trans cooler is the standard (in the radiator style) upgrading to an external add on unit is a matter of putting the new unit in series with the factory style one.
