Tractor Sizing What size Kubota is the largest for yard mowing?

My brother took delivery of a B7800 HST last night, with FEL and loaded R3(s).......I was VERY impressed with this tractor. It drives great, with responsive stearing and excellent response on the FEL control. I tell you, I own green, but I would not hesitate to buy orange after testing out my brother's 7800 last night. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif BTW, he has 5 and half acres of field and woods.

I used to have a B7800 and now have a L3830HST. I have used both for lawn mowing. (60"mmm for 7800 and a wood RD7200 for 3830.) My lawn size is comparable to yours and if I had to pick one just for mowing the lawn I would go with the B7800. You will get differing opinions about mid mount vs. 3 pt, but I prefer the 3 pt mower. I never thought I would until I used one. I believe the 7800 would run a 6' 3 pt with no problems. Whether you decide on mid mount or 3 point I would recommend the 6' model with 5 acres to mow. That one-foot does make a big difference with a large lawn. I have what used to be a small farm so the 3830 serves me better overall. (I use it for a lot of things besides mowing the lawn.) My lawn can be a little soft at times and the 3830 leaves evidence it was there. If your lawn is never soft then the 3830 would be fine. (Like Rat says) If you anticipate using it for other things the L series a solid choice. I do have R4'swhich are a little rougher on the lawn than Turfs, but they are more versatile if you have mixed uses. Enjoy your choice!

That is probaby the biggest reason why I traded in my Woods RD6000 RFM in on a BX2200 with MMM. Had I had a 72" RFM I probably would not have the smaller tractor now (along with the original B2910 and no mower).

With the B7800/2910 go with the widest mower available for it...that would be my advice too...

For now I am going with the 60" mmm -- the reason being my current scag mower is 61" and there are a few places in the yard that it fits just right between trees/shrubs, and I don't want to lose out on that.

I have an L3830 HST with an 84" 3 pt finish mower and turf tires. It is a dream for mowing. I have 2 acres of lawn and 12 of pasture and swales. With no low/wet areas and Florida-flat land, there has been no tire damage and it's actually a fun chore to mow now.

Just today I was able to do the 2 acres in just under 2 hours using the L3830 for the bulk and then a 50" garden tractor for the close stuff. Will be getting a 21" push mower this week for the closer work that is a pain with the GT. (The string trimmer is a PITA and slow, the 21" will save half that time.)

Actually, the L3830 is overkill for my application, but the initial cost was not that much more and resale value is very high, so why not get the big toy?
