What strange gift did you give or receive?????

Of course what I _really_ got is not strange at all - saw my boy wake up on Christmas for the first time when he knew it was going to be Christmas. 

Yeah, that first Christmas or two, they don't have a clue... but then when they realize what's going on..... very fun to watch the kids at Christmas! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I got a John Deere christmas ornament re-painted Kubota orange and black.

My Mom couldn't find a Kubota one...

I have seen JD on everything from curtains to playing cards to pajamas...

I woke up to my youngest boy jumping up and down on our bed Yelling WAKE UP! WAKE UP! IT'S CHRISTMAS WAKE UP! WAKE UP! IT'S CHRISTMAS To see the excitement on his face. Sure did make this Christmas one of the best.

Not weird or strange, but funny nevertheless.

I'm not certain exactly when it started, but it was over 50 years ago when my Mother first gave me a box of cherry cordials -- chocolate covered cherries -- for Christmas, more of a large stocking stuffer than anything else. Since then, I have never failed to receive a box each Christmas. When my Mother passed away 4 years ago, my Daughter took over the tradition -- it wouldn't be Christmas if Dad didn't get his chocolate covered cherries (which are traditionally opened immediately, and only a few left at the end of the day).

Now, my Daughter is a fine young woman, a good mother and a fine musician, but she's also a bit of a klutz. This year, she wrapped my box of candy, set it down to wrap another present -- and promptly stepped on my package.

So, Dad got his cherries this year, as usual, but they were a bit squished. Everyone -- especially my little Granddaughters and their foot-stompin' Mother, had a great time getting their fingers all sticky digging out the residue of gooey cherries, broken chocolate and whatever that sticky glue is that makes up the "cordial" part. It was so much fun that the tradition may have to be altered to include the stompin' from now on.

It is interesting how they get the "juice" inside of the candy. I know how it is done, but will leave that as a secret or if someone else would like to tell it, it is OK with me, but my lips are sealed!!!!

This is one I gave and it's "strange" to me only because I don't understand the technology. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif I got my son an Apple iPod MP3 player/recorder that holds something like 10,000 songs in a digital format. The most strange or amazing part to me is that this thing is about the size of a deck of playing cards and only half as thick. He was really surprised and elated to get it as he'd never even mentioned it to me and had only said something to his sister about liking them. She's the poor, struggling law student so it wasn't a gift hint but rather conversation about one she'd borrowed and used when she was in Europe last summer with the law school. He's moving to Monterrey Mexico in a month for a six month assignment there so it'll be a great thing for him to take with him there. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

One might consider a gift I got from my daughter to be "strange" if taken out of context. I had asked my son for a new arctic weight Carhartt coat for Christmas since he's now out of school and earning a great living. Gary, I have the perfect gift for you to give him on the next occasion, birthday or whatver. Not only is that iPod a great "tunes" machine, but it's Audible-ready, meaning that he can join audible.com and download audible books, then play them on the iPod to "hear" the latest bestsellers and a lot more. They have several subscription programs, and the prices work out to a lot less than recorded books in traditional formats, and not much more than paperback versions. If he likes books, that should come in handy in Mexico.
