It used to be that way and I remember the KC Chiefs played and it went about 7 quarters. No one could hardly get up to run another play by then. I loved to watch football but that seemed endless. My guess is that it took them 3 weeks to recover.

The main reason is player safety and studies that show a significant increased risk of injury after 4 quarters. This is the reason they allow a tie in regular season and also why changes have been voted down in the past.

Today, Sean Payton, New Orleans Saints coach retired and some of his assistance coaches are being interviewed by other teams to be head coaches and with some players now probably seeking contracts with teams with better odds of winning, it looks like the next few years will be re-building years for the Saints.

But, with the loyal fans the Saints have, I predict all their games will still be sell-outs in the next few years. You won't be able to tell if they are wearing masks or not with the paper bags over their faces.

Chiefs didn't deserve to win. They didn't play the second half. And I will say Good Job Bengals - AND not complain about the overtime rules. Good win.
