It guns are going for a reference.
Like checking a manifold for a cold/dead cylinder. Or see if one part of the system is hotter than others. Or measuring inlwt/outlet temps of heat exchangers, like a radiator or the furnace in your house.
Good comparison tool....but not accurate. If you measured 215, it could easily be 165......or it could be 265.
Flick a drop of water on it. See if it boils. If it does, you are for sure hotter than I would like.
