What the heck did I find?

I'm looking at an implement that an old hay farmer in our area is selling. He calls it a pan plow. I've never seen anything like it and I thought maybe some of you could enlighten me. It is set up like a 2 bottom turning plow, but instead of traditional plow bottoms, it has 2 big disks about 2.5 to 3 feet in diameter, and a tail wheel. It looks very old, heavy, and well made, and it's in good shape. He only wants 75 dollars for it, so I told him I'd take it, if nothing else but to play with it to see what it will do. I guess my questions are:

1. What type of implement is it and what's it called.

2. Can I pull it with my 3510 Mahindra (he says you have to pull it slow to do a good job with it)

OK, maybe I jumped the gun a little. Apparently it's called a disc plow (duh). Aint Google wonderful? Any idea though if I'll have enough horsepower to pull this beast?

After a lot more digging, it seems it is a Ford Dearborn model 10-80 disc plow. It looks complete with the exception of the scrapers, which are missing. I'm guessing that parts are as rare as hen's teeth. Still might be an OK deal at $75?

N80, that is very similar. The plow I'm looking at is exactly like the one in the picture below.

I've never used one. A friend of mine has one (almost identical to the one in your picture) but I don't think he has ever used it either.

But for $75 bucks I'd buy it in a minute. Try it out and if it doesn't work for you, sell it to the next guy for $50 and consider it a $25 learning experience. If you live nearby I'll guarantee you the $50!

I have a two disc plow and a three disc plow . I would not take 475$ for mine . use them a lot, if you get it and get it setup right you will like it.if you were closer I would buy it if you did not like it.

My granddad used one behind a small Farmall A model. They didn't have a three point just a draw bar. He used his all the time. It will turn the dirt. I haven't seen one since he died and they sold all of his equipment.

I've also seen large one's for pulling behind a dozer or large tractor. They have wheels with tires on the side of a square vertical frame. The frame has a hydraulic ram that lowers two big disks into the ground. They use them for cutting fire lanes and such. I doubt many of us have anything that will pull one of those.

There is one sitting in a field on the farm two 'doors' down from my property. He was trying to put in trenches for water pipes to his cattle troughs but it appears that it was no good for this. There is a Ditch Witch and a middle buster sitting next to it but it looks like he finally used a subsoiler to get the work done. I'd like to ask him about it but he's an odd fellow. You know, the kind that you wave at when you drive by and they just kind of stare at you until you drive out of sight (he knows who I am and I know who he is...not like we're total strangers; I knew his dad fairly well).

Well I'm going to pick up the plow this afternoon. I'll post some pictures of it later after I get it home. It appears that the scrapers may still be available from New Holland, at least they list them as a part number. The few of these that I've seen for sale seem to be fetching a pretty good price ($275 - $600 depending on condition ) so I think I can risk the $75 on it
