That is so cool and its in excellent shape. What a steal! And man that thing looks hefty.

But the jokes on you, now you have got to find a reason to plow! You won't regret it though. Plowing is a blast. (Spoken like someone who has never had to do it for a living.)

I already have a reason to plow. We have a big garden going with my son's future In-laws. He has a tiller, which did a great job with the garden this spring, but I can see it would be good to plow it to get a little deeper.

I'm no stranger to plowing. I spent MANY hours on an old Farmall 560 pulling a 5 bottom moldboard plow when I was a kid. Wasn't too crazy about it then because it seemed sooo slooow, but now every time I smell freshly turned earth, it takes me back.

But who cares! It hooks to a tractor and only cost $75! For that much money we don't need to know what its for!:D

Excellent point...I lost my head for a moment. :D

Well, I got the plow home and played with it a little this afternoon. The plow is original and complete, and everything seems to be tight and not worn out. I don't really have a place to plow here, but I tried it out in a little spot, and it worked great. Here's a couple of pics of the plow on the back of my tractor before I tried it out. No, I don't want to sell it :D

Hey how about a couple action shots? What it actually does to the soil. Sure looks to be in great shape!

Thanks,
Rob

Amen brother, some of my fondest memories too. we had a 560 diesel, with 4 - 16 semi mounted, heavy clay it would pull in 2nd, good loam it would pull in 3rd and our sandy ground it would pull 4 th gear. And that was plowing 8 - 10 inches deep. Loved every minute of it, except when Pa caught me plowing in 4th !!!!

I had one just like it that I sold for $295 and the guy that bought it was very happy. He was going to plow in ground that had shale in it and said the disc plow would slice right through. It had the old nameplate with Dearborn on it and Rome, Georgia stamped in the metal frame. It would really turn the dirt.

With this type of plow you have a built in rolling colter slicing the vegetation and turning the soil at the same time. Also will not get hung under roots etc if you are in fairly new ground that still has that type of obstacle present. Would seem very handy for deer food plots.

Haven't had a chance to plow any more with it yet. Too many projects and not enough time. I'll post some pictures of the ground when I do get a chance to plow some with it.

I have a 6' disc plow (or one-way) JD unit. Bought it at an auction for $25 and hitched it to the F350 for a very slow (5-7 mph) drive home (~10-15 miles). Took me three days to get it to the shop, as ~3 miles from home I lost a hub. The local JD dealer had just found hubs for one-ways -- for the next size down! Argh!

Anyhow, I haven't seen a small one anywhere I could touch it. An 10-12' one sold at an auction last week for $85! Almost bid it up just for the steel.
