I was needing some steel to test out the new Hypertherm and got a great deal on some flat bar I could not pass up. I'd rather have gotten some sheet to play with but this is what I got.

40ft of 1/2"X6"
32ft of 3/8"X6"

Now what to build? Thought about a grapple, but what other types of things could this type of material be a good fit for?

Hmm.. We don't have many rocks around here but that looks like a good candidate.

Use the 1/2 inch for sides and tailgate of a grading scraper. Use the 3/8 to make the angles to mount cutting edges, and the 3 pt.

Yeah, I smell a nice grader from that stock.
Wish you were closer as I'd swap some different stock with you as I am always short of wide flat stock.

LOL, I have a buddy that loves old oil storage tanks. He cuts and converts to them to flat sheet metal stock to make trailers from.

Ballast for your pick-up when the snow starts falling.

Piloon,
How does your buddy flatten out the curved sides of the tanks?

Well if you got it cheap, spending a few bucks on having that 3/8 plate bent into some angle, that would widen your choices of projects. I find that I use a lot of both of your thickness in a 2" wide "flat" for misc. bracing & gussets on a lot of projects. If your getting something bent, you may as well have some of it sheared into some various sizes also. Oops, I guess that might be a job for your new Hypertherm!
I just picked up a new (updated) torch for my 15 y.o. Hypertherm yesterday!

Pretty sure the guy I bought this from has some angle and channel at the same price, so I am not sure it would be worth the trouble of bending.
