Piloon,
How does your buddy flatten out the curved sides of the tanks?

LOL, very appropriately, he rough flattens the curves by driving his B7100 over a few times.

Using a trailer as an example he makes up a skeleton frame with 1 x 1 angle cuts say a side panel to fit the space and clamps the side plate with a series of clamps about every 4-6" and then skip welds every 3" or so.
The finished product never hints of its previous usage.

All his cuts are by using a hand grinder with thin cut off disks as around here they go on sale often for crazy prices like 20 for $10.00 and at those prices
who wants to use cutting torches. Besides cleaner and safer.

I have observed him making up a 4 x 6' trailer in a little over a day's work.

Piloon,
Thanks! I'm always looking cheap sources of metal.

I am planning on building one of these in the near future

Root rake.

I am working on clearing out an old fence row with the backhoe and ripper. Works great for removing stumps and trees, but leaves roots behind that break off. Those roots are hard to get out with a single shank ripper as they tend to flop to the side. Its tedious and time consuming and makes a mess.

Pulling a root rake through, my hopes would be to remove all the trash down to ~12" depth to get the area farmable. (I guess that aint a word...or so the red squiggly tells me).

See them on the front of dozers alot to do just what I describe. I dont have a dozer though. And think a 3PH version would be better than a FEL version for the equipment I have at my disposal.

Wow!!! Especially considering you just wanted to play with some sheet metal with your new plasma. I assumed you put that to good use here too!

I certainly did put the new plasma to use here and learned a lot. No idea how much time i saved as this is really the first thing I have built from scratch. I have a little over 4 full days into the project with most of that time spent figuring out how I wanted things. Quite a bit of time welding too as I am having to make multiple passes (Hobart Handler 140).

unfortunately, now i have to spend some $$ for the hydraulics to run it. Thanks to JJ's posts on solenoid divert valves, I should be able to get by spending minimal $$.
