i would have loved to suggest vintage iron for this guy.. but neededing a scut and laoder and working on hills.. that tells me hst, 4sd, and really.. rops..e tc. all stuff you are not as likely to find on old iron.

me personally.. in hs place.. would liekly be using old iron.. but then.. I like a challange.. :)

and.. I'm cheap...er.. frugal too.. ;)

Roger that.
My focus was on his budget limit which is why I posted as I did.

Since you've only got 3 acres, and only 1 acre ready to mow, if you watch what you're buying you can get a pretty dang good old tractor and brush hog for $2500 to $3000. Use that on your 1 mowable acre and maybe pick up a dirt scoop and/or straight blade to help with work on the other 2 acres all while you're saving up for the tractor with FEL that you need. Your budget is not so uncommon. I've been there myself a few times. Right now I've got a 1972 Ford 2000 gasoline tractor with a 5' brush hog and I've got less than $2500 in it all. I've got a dirt scoop and a blade borrowed from friends and I can do lots of work with just this tractor and this equipment. I say "go for it!" But again, just watch what you buy. There are some real lemons out there.

wow.. I didn't realize his budget was that low.

I'll jump in with the antique crowd and say a 641 / 661 gasser with rops.

Keep an eye out for Ferguson TO35's/MF35's. They're VERY similar to the later Massey Ferguson 135. You might even be lucky enough to stumble on to a MF35 with a Perkins diesel. Most were gassers. (32hp pto) Prices typically run in the $2500 range (+ or -) They are very capable tractors. The MF35 is said to be "the worlds most copied tractor". Ferguson/Massey Ferguson made a boatload of 'em, then Same, IMT, and a few others built carbon copies under license from MF. They were sold in massive numbers worldwide. IIRC, there is still a version being built for sale in 3rd world countries. They are stone reliable, simple, easy to get parts for, and as I mentioned, very capable of doing the chores you mentioned.
