What to do about Stuck Slip Clutch

I would NEVER beat on the flange of any of my slip clutches with a hammer!

As for adjusting them, you have to adjust the clutch to the hp of the tractor it's being run on, not set to some spec. in the manual.

How does your manual know the hp of your tractor?

So if you have an impliment rated for 40hp on the back of a 100hp tractor you would tighten up the clutch to not slip until 100hp? Gonna suck for your impliments. The clutch is there to prevent or minimize damage to both the tractor & impliment.

First I ever heard of that, I thought a set spec in MM or inches were what all slip clutches were to be set at from the implement manufacturer, never read in any manual to set it to the HP of the tractor, maybe you have one that states that, I'd be interested to see it.

If the clutch is set for 35 hp but the tractor has only 25 hp, the clutch will not slip.

Yeah, not saying ya'll are wrong just saying that I have never heard that before, nor have I read it in any implement manual and that is usually where you would go to get information about adjustments.

I weld them up if they aren't stuck.

Remove the shaft from the mower, take the bolts out of the clutch, hit flange with a hammer. It will fall apart. Then clean and sand all the parts, put it back together, and adjust.

I would NEVER loosen slip clutch bolts and run it on my tractor to try and spin it.

It might not succeed in breaking it free but what potential does attempting to break the clutch free on the tractor have to hurt anything?

You nailed it, set the clutch for the tractor it's going on, it's the only "right way" to do it!
