1*The pictures are small.
2* The path next to the house is narrow, steep and gravel. I can get the BX down there but can't turn it around. And backing up would be a
pain in the neck.
3*In addition, the wife would not let me put the drums anywhere close to the house.
4*Do you mind telling me what brand of pump you used?
5*Seems like a 12 volt unit powered by the charger?

1*Click on the pictures to enlarge.
Take a look at the picture of the gray truck with a blue drum in it.
The blue drum is your 500 gallon tank.
Now take a look at the picture with the character wearing the yellow coat.
The white drum he's filling is your 55 gallon drum.
Easy wasn't it !
2*Why not back the BX down then drive it up instead??
3*So then how did you plan on getting the full drum from where you filled it to where the tractor is?
4*I got the pump from northern tool.
5*I power it with the charger but I can also clamp the pumps wires to a batteries post.

WOW! so many pages of complicated advice for one little problem. this must be TBN!

plenty of people will pump the tank and give you $ for the fuel. the only question is how much you can get for it? i'd like to know that answer myself.

Don't know the exact figure but you can guess a lot less than the replacement cost of it.

i would certainly think so. i think the estimates here of getting $4 a gallon for pumped out heating oil are wishful thinking, but I guess you never know until you try. to the OP, please let us know if/when you get some actual numbers.

1*Why do you feel $4.00 a Gal is wishful thinking?

Diesel here is $4.78 per gallon so 70 cents off per gallon sounds reasonable and realistic to me.
I just had diesel delivered 2 or 3 weeks ago at $4.02 a gallon.
Danged if I'm gonna sell any of it for 2 or 3 bucks a gallon
and have to replace it at $4.78 per gallon.

low price on heating oil around my area as of yesterday is just a few pennies over $4 and they are telling me it should fall in the coming weeks. if I can buy it all fresh, filtered and delivered for $4 and can put it on credit to boot and get free burner service too why should I go to all the trouble and expense of sucking questionable stuff out of someone else's tank and have to filter and dewater it before I can put it in my own tank? and who do I call when the stuff won't burn cause it is crap? makes no sense to me at all.

1*It may not be that cheap in his area.
2*People where he lives may not be able to do that there.
3*I have a filter on my pump and drum set up to do exactly that even on fresh new fuel right from the distributor and even on fresh high volume on road and off road fuel right from a truck stop or gas station.
4*I think the focus has been more on selling it for tractor use than using it in a furnace to heat a house with.
The big advantage is buying the fuel from him allows small
volume users to buy fuel untaxed instead of being forced to buy the higher priced taxed on road stuff because they don't/can't meet the minimum delivery requirements.

I will definitely report back on what I wind up doing. And thanks for the suggest to use the tractor to move the barrel. I keep forgetting I have a tractor :D.
