What to do with a short PTO

New property came with a Kubota LX and a few attachments that have the PTO shaft already connected.

Unfortunately the mower attachment did not. It's a Woods Heritage RD72. I found a PTO shaft elsewhere on the property that is too short. Any suggestions from people who know a lot more than I do?

Try Messicks. The have parts for Woods equipment.

Any local tractor supply or similar should have PTO shafts. Measure what you think you need and make sure you get at least that length (give or take flex as the mower moves along the ground), you can cut them easy but you'll have a hell of a time trying to make it longer

And if you cut the new one off, those pieces can be welded onto the short one too. I don't want to hear any naysayers. I've extended several shafts.

Thank you for the replies. So the best solution is to start with a new PTO attachment?

I've read about things like PTO link, ideally I would like to use what was left here and question why the owner left this PTO if it wasn't for the mower. If I get something like the PTO Link I guess there's no guarantee it will solve the problem?

Would a new PTO shaft be less expensive than finding some sort of way to extend it. I see that the PTO Link is a few hundred dollars.

Check out ASC, Agri Supply Company, they ship fast, the stuff is really well priced. Yeah it's about 1/3rd Chinese, 1/3rd indian, and 1/3rd Italian, but a PTO shaft isn't rocket science; even Italy can make one work.

Yes, best bet is just get the one you need.

Edit: you mentioned other shafts with other impliments; are none of the other shafts the right size/set up. Yeah, you can buy a shaft for each implement, but its 5 seconds to swap them.

PTO Link? I'm not sure what you're referencing.

So are you saying there's a portion of the PTO shaft already on the mower? If so you can also sometimes source the other half but I would take the half you have with you to the store to ensure compatibility.

There is no reason to get a new PTO attachment (shaft) unless you want to.
There are dozens of suppliers that stock and sell the different tubes used in PTO shafts.

Also most Ag dealer carry some pto shafting parts and pieces as well as complete shafts.

The other shafts appear to be in good working order on the implements they're connected to, but are not the proper length for the mower. The mower didn't have one attached, it's just one I found in the garage.
