So I got these 4 old gas cylinders that were given to me because the person who had them didn't know what to do with them. They are all about 250 cubic foot full sized cylinders that were literally dug out of the ground in Detroit. All of them are pretty old and hadn't been hydro'd for at least 20 years. One still had the steel cap and valve on it, one was missing a valve completely, one had a valve and one had a broken off valve. It turns out, one of them was probably made in 1950, and the last hydro test was in 99 if I remember correctly. It was the one that didn't have a valve on it so I decided to cut that one up. Silly me thought it would be fun to turn it into a giant wind chime so I am in the middle of doing that. I have it mostly together but I need to find something (probably a big ***** tree) that is burly enough to hold the darn thing. I think it weights about 70-80lbs.
I shot a video about cutting it open and looking inside if you want to see what a 70 year old gas cylinder looks like on the inside: Cutting Open 70yr Old Gas Cylinder - Weld Project - YouTube
I think the one that had the valve still on it, I think I am going to use that as a reservoir for my air compressor. I have kind of a small 15 gallon air compressor so I thought having this might help increase the capacity of my system and I don't have to worry about the cylinder containing the 150psi from my compressor.
Another one my friend wants to use, potentially, to make a forge out of.
I have one more air cylinder I have no idea what to do with. Any thoughts? I could just scrap it, but it seems like a waste. Maybe there is something fun or interesting to do with it instead.
