So I posted somewhere on this forum I recently completely blew the motor on my JD 260 with a Kawasaki motor. It's sitting outside behind my barn with the deck, battery, and tires removed I already used some of those parts on my old worn out 212s . Surprisingly some of the good deck sheaves, deck belt, and a few spring tensioned linkages I tinkered enough to fit older decks I have. I'm trying to get rid of junk so should I just scrap it or try and part it out? Sell it whole, Most 260s I found for sale are supposedly in pristine condition asking way more than I'm comfortable spending on a 30+ yr old lawn mowing garden tractor I definitely don't need more projects for a possible vertical shaft engine swap, what else could I do with this current yard art? The frame, front axle and rear axle, transmission are in good condition and it definitely doesn't have much a cheap thin walled stamped steel components. It worked pretty good for awhile with a few backwoods shade tree hacks to keep it running til it threw arod and took out the crankcase. If I part it of what's left whole what do you think would be a good fair price to ask? I think some folks bleed green. Barter for other things such as three point cat 1 or 0 implements that might require welding or hackery to get them functional, hydraulic cylinders for top links idk. I never had brakes on it I didn't need Anyway on my flat 15 acres. I kind of know what I'll probably get if I scrap it. Although part of me dislikes doing that. Cuz then it's completely done with no one ever able to repurpose anything on it. Insight, ideas, or even interest in a cheap blown 260 lawn tractor is appreciated. I'm stubborn only use craigslist not fake book marketplace.

Other than a blown engine, is the JD260 a complete machine. There is too much info here to determine the state it is in, the post is somewhat confusing.

If the JD260 only needs an engine, there is a good chance people will buy it, and re-power with a Predator engine as the Kaw's as so-so for being reliable.

BTW, old machines are BETTER than modern machines. Too much cost cutting with raising the price, emissions and cheaply made equipment today.

I agree, fakebook is a joke. I've been stood up twice from people being no-shows, never happened on CL. Yet, CL take a longer time for someone who is truly interested.

The other downside is, the newer EV robo-mowers are priced within the same realm of riders doing it yourself. I do see a market shift for people living in suburbia going this way or 2 acres or less.

If the JD260 had a rear PTO or sleeve hitch setup, it would truly be worth it to re-power. Garden plots and feed plots machines are very attractive to members here.

No sleeve hitch or rear pto. I've rebuilt a few top ends in my day but never seen one with a blown apart crankcase. Parts I guess if one could use for a Kawasaki it would be the carb, starter maybe some electrical components, other parts not really associated with engine would be rear transaxle frame itself front axle steering linkages tye rods etc. a few electrical components not associated with the Kawasaki. I've already started stripping parts I can use on my older 212s like deck components, battery, and tires. I have no ambition or much time to put anything in it plus my wife said I need to get rid of some of my junk before I acquire more lol. So my question is what would be a fare price if any to prevent this from going to a scrapyard? As is. Pics of what it looks like now available.

I had a 265. Gave it away.

Buy a Zero Trun and get it over with.

Yep, going to scrapyard, wife has a zero turn I can't stand using it or any zero turn for that matter. I'll keep my old 212s going as long as I can.

I have a zero turn going to waste out back. I prefer a steering wheel, and my 70 hp tractors ride a lot better than a zero turn across wide open spaces. The guy who does the Church up around the buildings, was offered the field that I do with my tractor. Took him too and he was beat up after bouncing all over it, trying to make good time. Zero's have their place but not here.

We all have our likes and dislikes. I don't enjoy mowing my 5 acres with a Zero turn but it's much faster than even with a 6' Finish Mower. And the Finish Mower leaves too many places I have to go back and trim up. Can't win.

And when you have grades, swales and/or hills, they hug the ground a lot better. A lot better. In fact, I wouldn't even go near most if it on a tractor. The Z-Turn will slide before it tips. If it will even tip at all. 🤷‍♂️

But I don't like being that low to the ground and having all the chaff, etc, blowing back in my face. Gets old.

The best solution is paying someone else to do it. And then he uses a Zero Turn. An expensive Deere. He FLIES on that thing.
