what tractor do you tow with compact truck?

I have towed my L3000 with 6' mower on a 16' tandem trailer behind a Ford Ranger with 3.0 V6.
Thank God I wasn't going far.
I don't think the truck liked it any better than I did. The clutches and transmissions in these little trucks are flimsy. I can see them not lasting long if you tow very often.

This is a seriously STUPID forum, so much so I just can't hold my typing fingers back any longer.
You should NOT tow any trailer rated for holding a tractor with a 'compact truck'.
Little trucks are for little jobs.
Get a truck that is designed for this type of job.

I believe some compacts are rated for towing tractors. Especially with tow packages, you would be surprised what weight they can tow. Many small trucks are lighter, not lighter duty. Don't be fooled by the "size" /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif. My friend works in a pit and tells me all the time how toyotas and nissans can carry more than a full size 1/2 ton truck. I understand weight issues, but you made reference to "small truck = small job" Not always true unless you are comparing to 3/4 ton.

My Dakota is rated to tow 6750 lbs, or roughly 1.5 times its own weight -- and has virtually identical towing capacity to the Ram 1500 which appears to be a much bigger, more capable truck...
But, then a Dakota is truly a mid-size and not a compact, either...
