Im heading out to look at New Truck today, was wondering what new trucks TBN members are using. Im thinking about the gas over the diesel this time but still havent desided.Im also wondering if going to a 3/4 or stay with the 1ton single or dually.I do own a small dozer D31p and cple tractors one lease place around 40 miles away. I will also be running out of state to get hay. My pick so 2011 GMC crew/cab 2500,4x4,duramax,im usually a ford man but I just dont know yet.Budget:$55,000

What kind of diesel truck do you have now? I have an '08 GMC 1500 that loves gasoline.

There is a lot more leg room for the back seat in the Ford than the GM on the crew cabs. Ford also has some better technology features if you're into that. GM is just stuck with onstar. Ford's sync system integrates with your smart phone. The GMs are nice but I'm into the features and comfort.

Doesn't sound like I'm towing anything as heavy as you.

I use a 2006 Chev Silverado 4x4 1/2 ton extra cab 5.3L V8 to pull the BX24 on a dual axle TuffTrailer. The Chev pulls that little load without effort, and gets decent _gas_ mileage when not towing. I'm 6'2" and I like the extra cab for the added room and "junk drawer" effect.

When pulling the 7500lb boat, I use a '98 Suburban 4x4 w/454 and 4.10s. Pulls great. Gas "mileage", what's that?

YMMV,
Z.

My pick of trucks you mentioned is The DEISEL I ton SRW.
The 3/4 tons are a whole lot less truck for a very meager savings of dollars.
The diesel gets more miles per gallon and could enable you to get home delivery of less costly off road fuel for your tractor or tractors.

Around here if you cross the state line (in either direction) and have a dually pulling a trailer you can expect a 50/50 chance of being pulled over unless you have a DOT number. Personally I would love to have a 1 ton dually with a gooseneck trailer. Chances are though the 3/4 ton would be more than enough truck.

Drive both. I ended up with a Tundra after leaning hard for a Ford but during the test drive I found that the transmission had a shift point that was right at 50mph. It got annoying having it shifting into overdrive then back out while just driving on a slightly hilly road, something there's lots of here in VT.

Yeah I have been looking at them dodges I have always like the cummins diesel, but the interior is kinda plain in them. I could always just keep the old ford to pull the Dozer, dont really move it all the time(if I went with a 3/4ton).Already own 5vehicles just didnt wont to add another.Plan was just to sell the old ford once I got the motor fixed(in shop now)just time for upgrade (reliability).

Diesel all the way. I'm not sure about the brand new trucks but my 2004.5 Dodge Diesel has plenty of power and gets great mileage. 21 to 22 Highway! It's 4x4 3500 6 speed with SRW short bed. I plan to keep it forever.

If I were you... I would seriously consider finding a used Dodge Diesel... either a 2004.5 or 2005 model. You'll have half your budget left to put back in the bank.

I cannot speak for the new Ram trucks. I do like Cummins engines though. A lot of guys like their Duramax powered machines. One thing is for certain... I would not buy a Ford Diesel. The last good engine IMHO was the 7.3L.

Good luck.
