I was just wondering, maybe even polling what weight oil you guys are running in your diesels? I was talking to my trusted mechanic last night and he said unless the tractor is being subjected to severe tillage or pulling loads he would run straight 10wt in the winter and straight 30wt in the summer. Does anyone have anything else to offer? I have been running a multiweight, diesel rated 10W30.
Thanks for your anticipated input

I buy my oil in 55 gal. drums and use 15w-40 rotella in everything. I certainly would run a multi-weight oil. Not many people are going to change their oil all the time to stay up with changing conditions like you would need to do running straight weight oil.

I agree with Richard on this. Multi-weight oil is the way to go and Rotella is one of the best, if not the best.

10w-30, and on occasion switching to 5w-30 in the winter.

15W40 as Cowboydoc stated. Several companies are coming out with 5W40 diesel oils that would be even better. Kubota still recommends in there 3130 manual for 10W30 or 10w40 diesel rated oils. My Kubota dealer installs 15W40.

I just bought a case of chevron delo 400 ,10w-30. i searched all over and decided to run it. my dealer said alot of people with kubotas use it. the distr.i bought it from keeps it in stock because a local city that runs a fleet of kubotas use's it. said he sells alot of it to kubota owners. He said yeah the rotella is good but really recommended the chevron delo. he had both.
I paid $ 20 for a case , comes out to about $1.60 a qt. beats kubotas price.

I run Delo 400 30w in my BX2200 and did in a B2150. I have never had any problems whatsoever..Used these two tractors over a period of 12 years now.

I have seen this used in maintenance machinery on railroad equipment.all day long wide open and no problems related to oil!

I have also been told by the Kubota Dealers not to change the brand of oils either, In another words what You start with then stay with it...........

Your trusted mechanic sounds a lot like the crusty old dealer that sold my tractor to me. He said to just run a good quality 30W (Ok. doesn't get near as cold as Wi). I took his advice for 3 years, but now am using Rotella 5-40W synthetic. Starts are much easier in cool weather and I believe overall protection is better.

It was my decision to use 30w as we do have over 77 degree weather here quite often (per the manual) I do not like the idea of using different weight oils in a motor.and the fact i have seen this used for years in Various diesel engines with no problems,I also keep My equipment inside .

This approach has worked well for me .so I use it.
