take the plate and receiver hitches to a shop and pay to have it welded properly, (this is not a time/place to learn to weld)

I thought he was welding recievers to mount something to a table. That sounds like the perfect learning project to me. If I missed it & a road going vehicle is involved, ya leave that to a professional to avoid killing people. If it's for a tractor impliments, I'd go for it myself & wouldn't work much about a novice welding that unless it would be used on roads or any potentially dangerous situations.

Ok talked with the electrician and he recommended using aluminum wire I think 2/0 with conduit and putting a sub panel in. I do the trenching and he will wire it all up. TKS Ricky

When I put solar on my barn/shop I did the trenching & got the solar guys to drop in 125@ service out there to replace the 50@ of cable (and 100@ of circuit breaker :-o). So worth it. They only put a 12 breaker box on the barn side, but I found a 40 breaker box full of breakers on Craigslist for $50. It's now a sub panel on the shop side. So nice being able to trivially hook up any additional 110 or 220 circuits I want or need.

In the long term you won't regret running big wire out to your shop. Just get a big breaker box for your sub pannel. Go bigger than you think you need so you can do it right & not worry when adding stuff later.
