"My" salesman was out of town when I bought my tractor.
The fellow that took his place was a really nice guy.
But here's what went wrong:
Why did I pay a sales commission?

I walked in with cash and said, "I want a MF-1540 8X8 with the 1525 loader, pallet forks, R-4 tires and ballast."

Why did I need a salesman?

To me, a salesman is needed when someone walks in and says, "I need a tractor, but have no idea where to start. Oh, and I need financing, and can you show me how it operates?"

If I could do it over, I would have contacted the branch manager and said,"I want a MF-1540 8X8 with the 1525 loader, pallet forks, R-4 tires and ballast. I do not need sales assistance in any way so how much can you discount the price. Call me when the tractor is ready and I will pick it up."

The only thing left for them to do is to have their secretary fill out the papers, and I would gladly pay $25.00 for her hour to do that.

So, the dealer did a very good job.
I'm the one that screwed up! I paid for a salesman that I didn't need.
:p
I bet the salesman price would of been the same as the owner's price. The saleman does not look to see what the owner is selling his equipment for then mark it up. If that was the case no one would buy from a saleman

Well, I respectfully disagree in a couple of ways.

First of all, I'm not talking about "marking up" I'm talking about marking DOWNthe price.

Salespeople have a very important job.
I was at our local Ford dealership one day and happened uppon a young gal and apparently her grandparents getting out of a car. The Sales man walkjed up and asked if he could help. The Older lady stated that they werethere to buy a car for the girl. The salesman asked the young lady what she preferred and she said that she didn't have any idea.
So,,, The salesman asked, "Well, lets start with; what color do you like?"

There are many times when fine folks NEED a sales person.

That service has a value.

I did not need that service. But paid for it anyway.

Next time, I'll call the dealership, which ever one that might be, and negotiate a fleet sale, MINUS any sales costs.

:p

Nothing went wrong with the final purchase,but....When I first started shopping for a subcompact I originally looked at green. I was window shopping at a dealer and told the salesman so. I had hoped to someday buy one. when I asked about prices he told me to come back when I was closer to buying. Couple months later I was at a Massey/Kubota dealer doing the same thing, daydreaming of owning one. The salesman there showed me their tractors, let me try them side-by-side (GC/BX/B7510), went thru the numbers, factory financing and what do you know, I found out that I could afford it. He made a sale (after I cleared it with the wife). The customer service he showed there also appeared after delivery. he called a couple times to find out how I liked the tractor and if I had any problems. Came out once after I lost my float (45minutes one way). He attitude was a new tractor should not have any problems. I searched this board and took the advice-find the tractor that suits you, and the dealer you a comfortable with. My only complaints about the tractor have nothing to do with the dealer.

had the same thing happen to me on a Harley Davidson purchase "come back when ready to buy and I will talk to you" , never bought from them for some odd reason found a Harley shop on a sun morning with a salesman running his *** off helping 8 people. He promised "I am so sorry I will make this up to you later for being patient" came out he was the owner of Meredith Harley Davidson in NH and I payed what he offered on the bike I fell in love with with out even haggling because 1 he cared and kept his word (promised me a demo ride and took me himself a week later for a 2 hr ride, and 2, the price was awesome as I did my homework on a good price.) The dealer who lost out lost on my buy on a bike, my service despite being closer, and all add on sales for accessories and will never sell me a bike as I will never shop there for one.
