roading farm machinery is a right ya have as a farmer, of course they wanna take away all sorts of our rights these days so it probably wont be long before they decide to mess with that.

There is alot of truth to that statement Mark that is for sure. They are already starting to do it in some states and counties.

i admit that i am just a hobby farmer basicly, i do a few hayfields around here but am far from making any money at it, actualy i am far from even breaking even i think! but if they make it to the point where ya cant drive tractors on the road then farming will realy go away fast, how can ya be productive when ya gota spend half your time and money hauling equipment around. its bad enough to have to take the time to drive a tractor and equipment to the field, it would be terrible to have to load it all up and chain it down to go a mile or two up the road. as much as i hate goverment regulation and stuff, i could see why it would be practical to make farmers get a plate or something so it would be identifiable, something like transport plates that construction companys use where you own that plate and can use it on any equipment that you own, but i realy hope they dont do that since im sure it will have a big fee and alot of other crap along with it, but it is a much more logical solution than simply banning farm equipment from the streets as some counties are trying to do.

I don't know about your county Mark but every county I've ever been in never did anything logical. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

well luckly the worst our town has done to use so far was writing us up for " having a junkyard" so that meant we have had to work on getting rid of the old cars and junk lawn tractors laying around, the one good thing is that it says in the letter they sent us that "farm machinery and farm machinery parts are exempt from this on a working farm, but farm trucks and parts are not exempt"

its people like yourself who decide that you dont like being stuck behind a slow farm tractor on the road so there outa be a law created to keep them off the street even tho they have been on the road since well before most of us were around. roading farm machinery is a right ya have as a farmer, of course they wanna take away all sorts of our rights these days so it probably wont be long before they decide to mess with that.

That reminds me, a couple of weeks ago I had my first chance to drive a large tractor down the road with a large cart of hay. I also got my firts experience as the "farmer" in the scenario you depicted above. The first incident a guy tried to go around the tractor and cart on the LEFT as I was making a LEFT into the farm. The second event was when two young morons were tailgating me, and then ripped by swinging in front of me a while gunning the engine. I guess farmers are more patient and dignified than I am cause I let loose with a verbal barrage complete with accompanying hand gestures. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif I actually wanted to get off the tractor and choke the driver but I do have SOME restraint. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

That has got to be annoying to deal with day in and day out. My blood was boiling by the end of day one! I think if I did this for long, I'd find out if the FEL could lift the rear end of psuedo-sportscar riceburner. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Should not a tractor have to have a license to be on the road if they have the right to use the road? I have to buy a license for my truck to be on the road.I paid for my license to drive my truck on the road, I have to pay for a license for my trailer or my motorcycle,I have to pay for a license for my boat on the water.if a tractor is allowed to use the public road why should they not have to pay for a license? Seems unfair to me.

And here I thought we were among friends. Are you being serious about making farm equipment get licenses? Farm equipment spends probably 1/100 or less of it's life on the road but you want to add more hassle, more headache, and more paperwork than there already is in farming?

No offense meant on my part. I might not drive my car but 1 day a year but I have to have a license on it. If a tractor is on the road then they should have to give the right of way to a vehicle that has to pay to use the road. I should not be held up in a line of traffic because a farm tractor will not pull off of the road to let me around.
To be honest with you it does not really matter to me...honestly. I am just making an objective statement.Don't beat up on me.I was just throwing it out on the table for discussion.
Do not count me out as a friend. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

By the road laws you do have to pull over if you are obstructing more than three cars. Most farmers do this for one car. If they aren't then they are no better than the guys tailgating and such. A farmer on the road doesn't have anymore right of way than anyone else, usually less. I'm not trying to beat you up over this. If you had any idea the rules, regulations, and govt. garbage you have to put up with farming you'd understand why farmers get upset when someone suggests more legislation. Sorry if I came across a little hard.

You told me something I did not know.
About pulling over if 3 cars are behind you(thanks)
