What would 12" of rain do to you?

When levees are built up north to divert water that was natural overflow, downriver, then even higher levees have to be built downriver. And levees in southeast Louisiana have disastrous effects as it causes major land subsidence there.

I admire the work ethic of the people of Fargo as they pitch in to fill sandbags to protect their community, instead of just sitting on the porch complaining about the conditions as I have seen done in other places. (Don't ask where )

I know; I know. . . what are you gonna do? At least in S. LA and SE TX, we can dump all our water into that big salty lake between us and Florida.;)

We got somewhere under 2" of rain yesterday and the water level in lake Ontario rose 8" in 12 hours. That puts us at a water level I did not expect to see until June when the winds are kinder to my shoreline. Currently we have a strong west wind and 2' waves pounding my shoreline. If it had been a foot of rain, we would have what they call the 1 in 100 year flood. The waves would be washing across my yard, perhaps even hitting the house. That scenario and much worse would be repeated all around Lake Ontario and in the St Lawrence Seaway.

We are having our slowest spring in 25 years, due in part to the economy but more due to the lack of rain we had this year.

Good Mornin JB,
Yep wouldnt you know it, all my basement waterproofing work last year, and this year no water ! :(:)

Hey Scotty,
So it's your fault ;) Like the guy that buys a new snow blower then it doesn't snow all winter :)

12" of rain would do nothing to me. My property is beach sand (rubicon soil type) after a few inches of decayed vegetable matter and I live in a very high area (1,000 feet above sea level) with no river close.

I always like to tell people if it floods at my place you better have your ark built. :)

The downside is that only a few types of plants will grow here, and very slowly at that.

12"-- my current house may float away.... I know my in-laws house has been surrounded by water (you could wade in it) but we have no basements to worry about. My house is several feet above my in-laws and MAY actually be safe from the rising water when you look at how flat the land is around us, I hope not to find out.
My parents house (2 miles away) is on the side of a hill, has been sheltered of the big winds we occasionally see, and High enough that I feel the two dams above the town could break and mom and dad would watch the town float by. I would feel 10 times safer there...
