What would be the first thing you do after taking delivery of your new tractor

My dealer gave me a full tank of fuel, but check your fuel prior to starting a project, the gauge may not be accurate as some have posted on TBN that they have ran out of fuel at 1/4 tank reading. When I got my new LS, the first thing I did was set in the cab and find all the controls (reading the operator manual as I looked for everything). After finding where everything was located and reading thru the manual. I hooked it to my 6 foot box blade and with the aid of the FEL, dug myself a small pond.

When I got about 10 hours on the tach, I put the wrenches on all the lug nuts and FEL attachment bolts. Some of them were loose so that is a good idea. You do need to run the tractor a few hours and then recheck all of the bolts even if that is the first thing you did as some suggested.

I had the same experience, Gary. Delivered with a full tank but the fuel gauge was/is so slow to come up to the actual level that I commented on it to them later on. Slow fuel gauge level indication must be a tractor idiosyncrasy. :confused3:

Mind you, I also bought a 50ltr. diesel fuel bowser and, good on them, they delivered it full! How's that for a dealership, eh?

Thanks for the tip boy's. I plan to have a few fuel cans on hand to fill the tank just in case. The dealer has promised a full induction reckons it will take two hours! I definitely plan to keep the wheels down and the ROPs up LOL. I've had some very tricky moments on the old Fordson which was without ropes and brakes I might add! I have to say I'm getting excited I haven't felt is way since I was a
Kid....Only a few more sleeps. I'll check the nuts regularly over the next few months and pick up some blue lock tight as well as some good quality grease. I'm planning to take it easy with the FEL as I have no experience with it whatsoever. I didn't realize that you could dig ponds etc so it's got me thinking about the possibilities :licking:. Looks like you guys are a great bunch of blokes and look forward to making a few posts with pics.... Hopefully without warrenty issues.

Hey Cobber, had a funny moment when I was checking the tractor out at the dealers and asked where I pump and bleed the fuel system... He laughed and said this one has a fuel gauge that works! I've been checking the fuel level on the Fordson for 10 years with a stick :ashamed:.

Congrats! I would do all the things already noted. Especially the petting part  In addition, take some pictures of the delivery and solo shots of your new toy. It will allow you to look back fondly on the experience down the road. The other thing to do is following a read of the manual, I like to prepare a folder or binder to maintain the manual(s), sales paperwork, future maintenance slips and notes, etc... That way everything is kept in one spot. Good luck and enjoy!

I would put a sacrificial cutting edge on your bucket before using it. Protects your bucket's cutting edge... oh smile, be safe and enjoy!

Enjoy that machine. Get a supply of filters, fluids, and grease so you"ll have them on hand. Have a good torque wrench and correct metric sockets. I had copies of my owners manual made so I can manhandle the garage copy and still have a clean original.

Stop by the dealership from time to time just to make sure you're up to date on product advice, recalls etc.

My tractor has it's own garage bay so it gets a lot of attention from a PM standpoint.
