I am looking for an attachment to pull behind my Yanmar 1601d that will dig a 'trench' for burying a variety of things that a ditch witch would be used for:

--drainage pipe for gutters (4" PVC)
--electrical line in conduit

I would think that 10-12" should be enough depth - Is it called a middlebuster or sodbuster?

Thanks!

Here is a picture of a middle buster. Ken Sweet

Middle busters are excelent for digging trenches and will get the job done.

I think I have an old middlebuster in the barn that belonged to my grandfather - I was thinking that would just plow a shallow trench instead of a deep trench? I was thinking something like a single tine from a boxblade, but mounted somehow differently. hmmmm... I may just have to try out the middlebuster to see how it works - thanks!

This one has been discussed a few times here before.

I don't know if you're just trying to get a trench, or if you're trying to get the cable or pipe into the trench. I had one before that you tie the pipe or wire to and just drive off. The trench is cut and the cable is layed all in one pass. My tractor was too small to power it, so I sold it. I would call it a cable puller.

This should work.

IPlayFarmer - That looks interesting, but for gutter/waste piping, I just need a deep trench. I could see where this would help in laying electrical in conduit tho...

hey - that looks like what I was thinking! What is it called??

It is a subsoiler, however, I don't know about getting your 4 inch pipe in behind it?? They don't make a opening more that 1 -2 inches wide at the surface. Ken Sweet

What I was thinking was dig the trench with something like that, then installing the pipe - not at the same time. I would guess it would take several passes to get the depth and maybe a little wider with each pass. That may beat renting a ditch witch!
