What would you do to prepare to horde & store a few years worth of diesel?

If things got really bad - why would you even care if there was fuel for your tractor. What do you plan on doing - running around on your tractor thru an apocalypse scenario. Would you be the only person within a 200 mile radius with fuel to use in their tractor - for exactly what purpose.

This is an interesting but somewhat confused situation.

And,,,,,, if you are the only guy within 200 mile radius with fuel,,,, you won't have it long......

It has been over 50 years ago, so lots of poor memories here. I worked in a petroleum lab, with 55 gallon drums of petrochemicals that had to be kept uncontaminated while being used. We ended up pressurizing the drums with maybe 1-2 PSI of maybe nitrogen, from a regulated pressure tank. Barely above atmospheric pressure, with no humidity, spores, etc. able to get inside through a vent. No clear memory of how long a nitrogen? tank lasted, but it was seldom changed.

Bruce,

I run air shocks on my buggy. They are charged with nitrogen so no moisture can contaminate the interior.

So, are you just moonlighting as a a stock pimp? Bored in retirement there in Florida???

Moonlighting.

I have not found retirement boring yet. My working years were frenetic. Slowing down from frenetic to busy during retirement has been delightful.

I have learned tractors make a satisfactory substitute for boats. Kubota loves me.

Congrats on the retirement. I've been in that mode for 3 1/2 years. If all you have is a 3560, Kubota doesn't love you. They don't even know your name.

Who's the guy on here that has like 10 Kubotas and trades like I change socks??? Sorry, can't remember his name?? :)

If I ever go full prepper, I'm investing in lead rather than gold or silver like everybody else. Lead can feed my family & if it comes to it take your gold.

In all reality I'm much more worried about a week long power outage here in Colorado when the tempature is in the teens. We have propane heat, but still need electricity to power the furnace fans. I'm an Eagle Scout & the Boy Scout motto is "Be Prepared". I've already got the tractor & the PTO generator. Just need to make sure I have the fuel on hand to run it if need be while we are snowed in or what not.

Eagle Scout here as well, and I went "FP" many years ago. I've had a 300gal gasoline and 180gal diesel on stands in a shed for 20 years.....just upped the diesel to a new 300gal tank as well. I also store quite a few sealed 55gal drums of diesel, gasoline and kerosene, all with PRI products for preservatives. I store diesel for my tractor, my garden tiller (8hp Lombardini diesel) and my mini-excavator all used here o the farm. Gasoline is for ATV, sawmill engine, chainsaws, etc.

Our electrical needs are met with an 11kw solar power system with couple days battery backup, plus 2 generators if needed.

We heat with wood, have two years ahead cut/split/stacked in dry.

Water heating/cooking is propane, have 3-4 years worth on hand all the time. Wood backup both for water heating and cooking.

I'm hoarding toilet paper.

I hear ya.....

144 rolls to the box (5/8" plywood, lined inside with plastic, and wrapped outside with plastic). Got 10 boxes stuck away.

I'm not flaming in any manner. I just don't get it?? In the scheme of things, what's a few months of supplies?? Again, no flame intended. :)

Months ? I agree....not much, unless the problem is localized. (Say a hurricane Katrina kind of thing)

I'm in the multiple years category, personally.

Where I am currently they just use a water bottle and their left hand. Using sanitary paper is new fangle invention. One I greatly appreciate by the way.
