I've got a 200 foot row of pines that I just get as close as I can on with the tractor and a three or four times a year I fire up my $5 yard sale push mower and do some trimming.
I have a couple Homelite grass shears that I trim around the 15 or so trees with, maybe a little more often. I can usually convince my wife to operate the second set!
I don't use the weedeater around trees because it damages the bark and can set the tree up for all kind of diseases/infestations.
I'm with Dave on the value of the older Cubs, I have personal experience with the 1641, 1860, 1862, 1872, those are "forever" tractors.
