I've got a smaller one. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I've never seen one just like that and to look at it twice to verify my first guess was right.

It's called a "swage block". Blacksmiths use them for forming steel. If you look at the four ends you will see the shapes are the same but they're different sizes. That's to accomodate variations in producing items. The middle has basic forms for making stuff like ladles and spoons or even post caps. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Show us a picture of the other side Vin.

Spot on harv, this block is very heavy i can not pick it up on my own. These blocks where used when forge welding bars and rods together they would use the shape to bring the weld back to the parant shape.

At one time i had it on the front of a Ford Super Dexta to hold it down.

I will get some more pics tomorrow, just at the moment i am nice and warm inside, its winter down here.

Harv, when we come over for the Texas get together, we'll get that spot off you. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

(That's a good one to add to your web page's Aussie Lingo list /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif)
