Something I found interesting and that is, the replacement blades for my Kubota F series diesel mower are substantially less than the cost for my wife's CC zero turn mower. Why, I haven't a clue. As a rule, I don't sharpen them, just replace them every spring. I would be concerned about blade balance anyway. Guess I could drive a nail in one of the barn posts and use that to balance them???

How big of an area are you mowing? What type of grass do you have?

I'm mowing bahia and bermuda grass, plus a variety of weeds. I'm mowing about two acres a week, but sometimes I don't have the time, and I might skip some areas.

I start off the year with last years blades because I'm mostly mowing weeds when Spring hits. Then I put a new set on in May that will last till July, then I'll finish off the year with those blades and use them for weeds in the Spring.

I buy two sets of blades every year.

3 blades, 61 inch cut, on a 26 HP Scag Wildcat zero turn.

The middle of the picture shows how much metal is worn away on an old blade by sitting on top of a brand new blade after a couple months of mowing.

What mine look like. The 'kick up' gets eroded away. Must be the sandy soil here as I don't cut that low as a rule either.

Look for aftermarket blades to fit the CC (Cub Cadet? Not Country Clipper?)

One obnoxious manufacturer uses an oddball flower shaped drive engagement between spindle and blade making aftermarket difficult to impossible.

I mow about 2.5 acres of lawn, tall fescue. From March to October. I just put a little edge on them every spring. Very little wear the past 6 years.

I've never seen a blade wear like yours. That's incredible. Yeah, a decade on mine easy.

High lift blades cutting grass in our sandy soil wear out fast. Wears the edge and also the bend up that creates the lift. Most don’t last a year. Low lift or no lift last longer but leave stragglers.

Why? Now we are talking about blades? And waiting to hear if the EGo uses a unique blade mount to force one to purchase only EGo replacement blades?

Issue for me is having a mower that can mow 2.5 acres in one go on battery. And what does that mower cost?

My cousin is mowing a 2.5 acre property with his Ego 52" zero turn, 5 years now. He reports no issue with his battery life, so far. He also uses the same batteries in his walk-behind snowblower and walk-behind mower.

Ok I see the EGO 52" states it will mow 4 acres on a single charge.

Probably when new. But I suspect those pushing it for the full 4-acre capacity will be the first to complain about battery degradation, as they have no margin for that.

Mower cost is $7k. That's impressive. I still don't want to trade my heavy duty 72" commercial Hustler for one though

Damn. 72" is friggin' huge for 2.5 acres!

I've run his mower, and I like it, mostly the lack of noise and heat. If I were buying a new mower in the future, I'd give them a hard look, but I don't love the thing enough to consider selling my 60" gasser today. What I have works well, and feels more robust and built to last longer, than the Ego.

Am guessing years ago when EGo claimed 2.5 acres the provided batteries were 7.5 Ah. Shipping 10 and 12 Ah today.

Believe EGo is using lithium-ion, not LiFePO4, so operation at the upper and lower limits wears faster. Not sure what limit EGo sets when charging as we don’t have an option to charge to less than full other than to manually time and pull the battery off charge.
