You bought from Carver, right? Was Steve able to help you at all? He seemed to run a first rate business.

Re: What\'s ailing my bota 4610

I know what kind of hills you are dealing with. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

You did say you can go neither forward nor back, right? Have you ever been up and down that same trail with the tractor before? Sounds like a major steep hill that may be causing lack of fluid. Whatever you do, chock all the wheels and maybe add a couple safety straps. I'd come over and help you myself, but mine is out for service.

Anyway, you got a great cheering section goin here. Hope you find out it is something easy in the end. Chin up...this too will pass.

Thought I saw a picture of a 'Bota 4610 on a milk carton this weekend. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif What's up? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif We're all still figuratively pulling for you.

Re: What\'s ailing my bota 4610\"

Ok, 'bota soap opera fans, here's a little update and maybe a slightly new development here.
With very little chance for drying out and weather conditions not co-operating I've still not been able to pull tractor out. I did have a guy with an old army vehicle to try to pull it out but he didn't have enough cable so it must be more than 100 ft. Also he was kind of experiencing same condition with the slope..wasn't getting any power on a couple of pulls.
Anyway, I took some hydraulic fluid over and got a little better funnel with a long flexible spout kind of like a transmission funnel. The fact that this is a cab tractor and there's not but about 5 inches of clearance above the hydro fill location and the incline position of tractor, it's extremely hard to get any fluid in. I can't get the spout to give me enough gravity to flow in...but still I managed getting some in.
After doing that, I climbed in cab and tapped the hyrdo pedal forward...started engine...gear selector into Low...nothing happened...but as i kept tapping on pedal...and moving throttle lever to mid position and back down to low idle...the front wheels moved. There was a sound I'd never heard...a low rumble..then a humming sound...and as I moved pedal..I lifted bucket off ground...took emergency brake off...and tractor moved approximately 2 feet forward..then wouldn't move anymore. I stopped using pedal forward and tried moving pedal on rear to go in reverse...a sudden movement occurred. i continued working the pedal and keeping the engine idle at minimum. After about 30 seconds I would try stepping on forward part of pedal. Each time I did this, the tractor would want to move. But as i increased throttle, it would always stop. It seemed that as throttle was low idle, the wheels would move. I actually got it to move forward about 5 feet but I guess a combination of there being a small mound where a stump had been in front of one wheel...and steepness, it just wasn't able to go.
So, I think that tells me it's not a clutch problem...right?
Now, I know there is hydro fluid in there and that isn't the problem. I said earlier that I lost a little when attaching the log splitter but I know it wasn't completely empty. So, is there an airlock in there?
What do you guys think?

Re: What\'s ailing my bota 4610\"

Can you get your neighbor with the Massey back out to try pulling you again and try using the same thing you just did?
Maybe the little movement you can get will be enough to start the long pull upwards, only sucessfully this time.

Re: What\'s ailing my bota 4610\"

Sounds good. Any chance of getting more fluid in and backing downhill to a level spot?

Re: What\'s ailing my bota 4610\"

Rdbrumfield and L3710GV both brought this up before and your most recent description makes me think it deserves more consideration.

Basically, is it possible that the incline your tractor is on is so steep that the hydraulic pick up for the transmission is going to be above the fluid level even if you have a "full" hydraulic reservoir.

Maybe a straight up question to Kubota (or perhaps Steve Carver or Kubmech can answer).

"Is there a maximum operating incline limit for a Kubota 4610 beyond which the transmission hydraulic pump will be starved for fluid?"

Re: What\'s ailing my bota 4610\"

That's part of my problem. Two things about backing down the hill. First of all, each time I've thought about doing that and eased back a little, it's so darn steep that it starts picking up speed, braking barely holds it and there's so many stumps, roots, vines, mounds etc..it's a little scary to start going backwards real fast and I worry about control. And the other thing is that I still have the Kawasaki mule behind the tractor disabled. That puts me between a fence and some bad obstacles. Then if i did get it down there at bottom I'm in worse shape that where it is because there's no access out. It's a ravine with no way out except way where tractor is now.
I was just afraid that for anything to ever pull me out, it is in the best spot where it is.
I can't tell anything about fluid overflow. All i can do is try to get a cup full in at a time. In order to get enough gravity for it to pour in, I'm always losing some at top of funnel. It's like trying to pour it in sideways.

Re: What\'s ailing my bota 4610\"

SMM,

How about trying a battery operated drill with a drill pump attached. With two small hoses you could pump the hydraulic fluid into the reservior? You might need to warm the fluid up to thin it out, so the pump could draw it through...

Re: What\'s ailing my bota 4610\"

How about using a turkey baster to add hydro fluid. I use one on my equipment for topping off fluids in hard to reach areas. You can buy one for around a buck at your discount stores. Buy the biggest baster you can or you will be doing a lot of filling and squeezing. I hope this works for you.
