Re: What\'s ailing my bota 4610

Smoky,I know this is really "out there" but have you checked to see if the 4-W-D level is buy chance moved out of position? In other words, could the lever be in between "engaged and disengaged".I know you have gone over everything with a fine tooth comb,it's just a thought...

Re: What\'s ailing my bota 4610

yeah 4wd lever is ok. I checked that and differential lock first day. Carver's techinician gave me a test to do on it..I posted above. we're getting pretty close to diagnosing long distance best they can as a clutch problem.
trick now is...getting the darn thing out of there and go to plan B

When the Massey was pulling, did you try putting the Kubota in gear?

Re: What\'s ailing my bota 4610

Smokymtnman, Hydro trans on you're 4610 is same as my 3710 , when I first got it I put my loader together myself and had checked the hyd fluid leval on flat ground after working loader cylinders, Went out to test dig on my hill, got on a hump digging with loader uphill (tractor about 40 degrees) all of a sudden no movement out of trans, What happened was the hydro trans was air locked from foamed fluid, Caused by me not noticeing that the oil sight glass looked full but was full of air bubbles (hard to see with new fluid) airiated hyd fluid. Now if I remember right you just had trouble hooking up log splitter an lost and used some hyd oil, maybe you missread the sight glass like I did and you just need hyd oil, SAME SYMPTOM Just add a gallon of hyd fluid, run hydro pedal both directions several times, stopping engine each time. This might purge the air thats likely in trans, and alot cheaper than a dozer comeing out. What I have found with hydro trans is make sure fluid is full and not airiated before going down a steep hill, otherwise sudden loss of trans which is holding tractor from racing down the hill, making you quickly wonder when was the last time I adjusted those brakes!!

"making you quickly wonder when was the last time I adjusted those brakes!! "

I don't think you need to adjust them on HST since they so rarely get any use, they never wear. I used mine once or twice before just to see if they really work. They do, just like brakes on regular transmissions.

Your comment about the fluid is a little suprising. On my L48, I'll bet I would need to loose a lot more then a gallon to have it affect my hydraulics. The pickup being at the bottom and the whole system holding +50 quarts, its got a generous supply. I realize some is in the cylinders etc. When I did my hydraulic oil change at 50 hours, I was able to get out about 48 quarts. Rat....

Re: What\'s ailing my bota 4610

Rat, suprising but true, I had to coast off the hump to a more reasonable angle and start and stop engne several times working pedal, before trans got its brains back, air must have got into control servo or pump. The next day on leval ground I discovered hyd fluid leval in sight glass did'nt even show once all the air settiled, it took over a gallon to fill. I stupidly ran the loader cylinders to fast at ist airiating fluid that is picked up by the trans. The case does hold about 10 gallons, but 1 gallon seamed to make the difference on the steep hill,or maybe it was just the airiated fluid, either way I don't trust it now with out checking leval before going down a steep hill. Without the trans working on a steep hill its just like pulling it into neutril, nothing to stop you except the brakes or any implement that you can drag, not as good as all four wheels provideing the brakeing. Smokeymtnman I did answer you're message with more details Ken
