...How about looking for an on-site mechanic?...

That would be my first option... but for some reason, I thought this was mentioned earlier in the posts and for reasons unknown... wasn't pursued... /w3tcompact/icons/hmm.gif

Of course you were right, sorry I missed it.

Call Carver Equipment. Explain the situation and ask for help. You might be surprised.

By that, I mean in a most speculative way, it could be a relief valve stuck open that needs to be manually reset.
(You said you were pulling uphill when it quit.)

Re: What\'s ailing my bota 4610

SMM, I think you said the loader is working OK, which gave me the idea that with enough log chain, you could use it as a "ratcheting winch" by hooking one end of the chain to a hook on the bucket and wrapping it around the outside back of the bucket. Every time you down curled the bucket you would draw up 4-6 ft. of the chain. (Don't everyone laugh at my primitive drawing attached!)

This would need a couple of people and would still be darn tedious - also potentially risky, but it might work (don't know for sure... it's only a theory) if you can't get any heavy equipment in there.

Grandad:
It's not so foolish and may just work without the chain. Just lift, curl, set down, lift curl and on and on.

Re: What\'s ailing my bota 4610

I dont mean to sound like a horses rear or anything but if the tractor is still under the manufacturers waranty it doesnt matter where its at there supposed to retreive it or fix it where it died. I worked for a company from Missouri as an operator. They bought a new 300 Komatsu excavator in Missouri from their local dealer. I was operating it next to the Tennsee river in Barton Alabama and blew a final drive shaft. Alabama's local dealer/ mechanic refused to work on it, where it was and it was still under warranty. So we called Komatsu,s home number in Georgia they told us the local dealer would be out to fix it that evening. by then he had to dig 2 feet of red clay with a shovel and repair the final drive.

Attached is the pertinent portion of the Kubota warranty. It says repairs may be made by the dealer at the customer's location. While this could give them a way out, I would certainly give the dealer a call, tell them what happened and what the situation is and ask them what they can do. At a minimum, I would expect them to send a mechanic to diagnose the problem to determine if it is fixable in the field.

Re: What\'s ailing my bota 4610

Under safer conditions, the chain would be unnecessary. But being as the tractor is on a steep, muddy mountain trail where a bigger 4wd ag tractor can't begin to pull it, I figured the chains would add some grip and security to the situation. Still, it would be a looonnnng way up the hill this way, chains or not.

Re: What\'s ailing my bota 4610

Just curious. When your friend was trying to pull you out of there, did you put the range gears in neutral? I don't know how well a hydrostat tows if the main is in gear. You might use a cable with a pulley chained to the loader to give the uphill tractor more advantage. If it is locked up even in neutral, I would have to say it might not be the hst.

Don,

I know you said early on that the dealer where you purchased your tractor, "Carver Equipment", is five hours away, but have you ever spoken to Mr. Carver to get some input from him. He might have some information that might be of some help to you.
Never hurts to ask.
