Re: What\'s going on in California?

<font color=blue>I bet you wish you had a few new nuclear power plants close by now</font color=blue>

We actually have plenty of nuclear plants, but environmental/political groups have shut them down. As far as I know, they're just sitting there waiting for somebody to say it's okay to fire them up again.

We also have a fair amount of hydro-electrical capability at several dam sites, but water conservationists are afraid we'll deplete our water reserves if we don't wait for some real rain/snowfall this year. Current result is that we're only running about 50% of our hydro-electric generators.

So now the state is buying power from out of state, but apparently those suppliers are jacking up the prices. I guess those are the "clearer heads" you mentioned. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

I probably should never have entered this discussion 'cuz I'm not politically-oriented, and I have an innate distrust of politicians and big business. The fact that this is happening in my own state is just plain humiliating. /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif

Re: What\'s going on in California?

Allen...What part of Washington do you live?
Also, have you heard from 'scruffy'? (Bob Hasel)
He's a most perspicacious person who participates
productively on our TBN Forum quite regularly. Had the privilege of linking up personally with Bob while down in SoCal. He was being actively sought-after by several major multi-national tech
companies when I visited him last November. He may be hyper-driving in a new situation that could be distracting him from real priorities...TRACTORS!
Anyhow, just thought I'd ask you, as an active quantity on this great board/forum.

Thanks from me and, I'm sure, a great many members who enjoy the benefits from your participation and contribution related to TBN subjects.

Re: What\'s going on in California?

Chip,

No I have not heard a peep from Scruffy. Last post I recall was before Xmas. Hope all is well. He is probably working lots of O.T. to buy a new tractor.

I live on the West hill above the Kent/Auburn valley. Close to Trout Lake.

<font color=blue>"enjoy the benefits from your participation and contribution related to TBN subjects."</font color=blue>

Say what!! Thanks for the thought but I really don't know diddle squat about tractors or farming for that matter. This is my first tractor with a 3 point hitch. My A is fun, but not very usefull for what I do. I bought the B21 to move some dirt around. I spend 1/2 my time fixing my smaller tractors and the other 1/2 breaking them. My wife is starting to figure out the B21 is not the mowing rig I told her it was. Before spring I need to get something for her. She has a Craftsman 32" mower built in1974. /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif

I do enjoy your posts. Wild and Crazy Guy comes to mind. Have you ever tried fried Green Heron?/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Re: What\'s going on in California?

Allen...re heron...I haven't tried that recipe;
however, I look forward to fixing Cordon Blue Heron
the next time the main ingredient comes calling to
un-critter my pond! In short-shake, these 'herons from hell' have sterilized the population of my bio-puddle...amphibizoids, fishus catizoids, crawdadizoids, and my mated pair of Beverly Hills
Coi(biggus sortofus goldus fishus) They're palomine
carp revered by Asian and Honky devotees. I got these herculian guppies from the widow of a Hollywood movie actor who lived in Beverly Hills,
90210. This is the truth! After the ol' boy croaked, no one was watching after his precious collection of colorful carp. His widow noticed that
the neighborhood cats were catching and eating these pinto-painted pisces her previously alive hubby had procurred, protected, pampered and paid for with a pretty few pennies. I'll cut to the
punch-line....I got the last two farking fish, fortunately mr./mrs....hand carried the thoroughbred buggers from L.A. to the Lazy K Stables Bridal Suite (my pond)....looked forward to selling the progeny to samurai devotees...the rest is heron history.
I'd better go feed the horses before my wife gets the crosshairs on my behind!

Re: What\'s going on in California?

Chip, did you send me a private e-mail recently. I replied (thought it was you) but it came back as undeliverable, tried again with the e-mail address here in your profile, and it came back, too.

Last time Scruffy was heard of, he was moving to Illinois; must be too busy to get back on the Internet.

Re: What\'s going on in California?

Truly feel for you, Harv. And the other rational people out there. Many to fault; foremost the environazi's who wouldn't allow new power plants for the past 10 years. Close second are your current politico's who wrote the dereg. with fixed retail prices an no contingencies for change: Natural gas prices soared, generators costs increased big time and they could not pass the cost due to fixed retail prices. Hmmmm, did anyone se this coming--say last summer when energy prices went nuts?? Guess they just covered their ears and kept yelling I can't hear you louder and louder like my 4 y/o does. Now the generators refuse to extend credit, knowing the distributors have no revenue source to pay--can't blame them. You guys should throw yor governor out on his ear. Next to blame are federal regulators who are letting about every industry develop monopoly power--especially fuel and energy. Campaign contributions are good from these folks. Expect no change with Bush (at least he rightfully says it's Ca.'s problem, maybe I won't have to pay too much to help fix it). Finally, the generators (and it seems any beneficary of dereg.) who stick it to the consumer (ref. oil co. profits last year). Makes me sick--two choices, bad and worse. Either an obnoxiously inefficient gov't run system or a bunch of thieving corp. pukes. Pick your poison. Here in Michigan it's Ameritech for phones--deregulated and my bill has doubled+ thanks to the corrupt politicians that wrote our law. Good luck, and dust off your wallet.....

Re: What\'s going on in California?

Harv,
Even the state of New Hampshire has pull some shady deals.
Our liquor stores and ski areas in which the taxs payers payed dearly, /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gifand our governor has tried twice to disban New Hampshire Fish an Game by using back door policy and come to find out, there were two special interest groups pushing the bill. /w3tcompact/icons/mad.gif

Maybe its time there were more guards in the watch towers to keep an eye on these groups.

Re: What\'s going on in California?

Really easy way to do this and I would have voted for McCain on this issue alone. Campaign finance reform! 50-100 million is what most of these people spent to get elected. They do that every 2-4 years now. Where does that money come from? The special interest groups. So do we really think that these corporations are going to give money to the guys that vote against these monopolies that we have going? Heck no. We need campaign finance reform. This has gotten way out of hand. I mean my gosh look what Clinton and Gore did selling out our nuclear secrets for campaign money. Thanks to them China now has inter-cont. ballistic missiles. Where does this all stop? Look around we are getting down to a few major corporations in every area of our lives, heathcare, farming, fuel, energy, media, etc. Big corp. are controlling it all. I mean when was the last time in this country you saw everything that's happened lately. Fuel prices out of control, farmers pushed out from low livestock and crop prices, healthcare rising daily, it's the corp. making every last dollar they can today and to heck with the future, and the politicians are just guiding them along because they're afraid to lose all their money for the next mega multi-million dollar election. Granted there are some good people in office but not many.

Re: What\'s going on in California?

Richard, I certainly agree that campaign finance reform is needed, but I don't think even McCain's plan would help a great deal. I think Alan Keyes was the only one who had a plan that would work.
