What's Happening with Gasoline Prices

#1, in addition diesel is exported to some degree

#5, I believe by the year 2012 all refinerys have to put out ulsd only. IF they didn't have to, they wouldn't. It's an expensive process to set up, you either have to purchase or make the hydrogen, then you have to get rid of the mountain of sulphur.

Haven't I read here on TBN the refineries sell the sulpher for other uses at a large profit?

I could understand prices going down a bit this time of year, but would have thought they'd wait until AFTER the Labor Day holiday. The $1.999 prices I saw this morning were at the Circle K and Walmart in Hickory Creek. Later, I went to Denton and the Quick Trip (where I paid $2.279 yesterday) was only down to $2.259 today.

I started this thread because I was so surprised by the size of the price reduction, but a day or two ago, I learned why. I knew a new QT (Quick Trip) convenience store/gas station was being built almost next door to the Circle K (just across the railroad tracks), but didn't know it was opened yet. So when they opened, they posted the low price, then Circle K and Walmart matched it. I hadn't heard of any "gas wars" in many years.

Prices here are holding steady. I was hoping for a drop after the holiday, and your $1.99 has encouraged this, but so far, the cheapest around here is still in Lindale at $2.21 a gallon.

I heard somewhere that the average profit on a gallon of gasoline was about .50 cents, so it could still be profitable to cut the price by .20cents and still make a profit on it and undercut all the competition for a short period of time. Of course, how many gallons they sell will dictate how much money they make or lose on doing so.

I wish we had a price war on gasoline over here!!!!!!!

I just read the farmers are looking for new sources of sulpher. Seems like the refineries should have a market with the farmers.

RaceTrac and Quick Trip are usually the cheapest gas and those around Denton are $2.249 now on regular. Diesel is $2.489 to $2.549.

Used to be. Just talked with our crude buyer who use to buy for the refinery in Tyler, TX. 5 years ago or so there was a market. When he left the company they had to pay someone to take it away. My guess is with more sulphur on the market from hydro treating diesel it'll drive the price down more. I believe our gulf coast refinery researched it and it was going to be a problem to get rid of not to mention the space for it.

I also remember years ago a giant pile down in Galveston at the piers. That was probably going overseas. But that was 20+ years ago. I didn't notice it when we were down there in May.

It may be better depending on where the market is.

The biggest pile of yellow sulphur I ever saw was near a refinery in Canada. And now I can't remember where it was but we passed it enroute to Alaska.

I remember a huge pile of sulfur in Port Sulphur Louisiana, years ago. Port Sulphur was founded in the early 1900s by Freeport Sulfur and in the 1990s Freeport shut down operations, as the price of sulfur dropped too low, mainly to the by-product of sulfur obtained in petroleum production.

I filled up today and diesel was $2.89/gal. This is highway diesel, subtract $0.18 for off road diesel.

This is one of the lower prices around here for diesel.

I filled up yesterday afternoon with gas in the little Ranger. The little gas war is still going on in the Lake Cities area south of Denton; don't know how long it'll last. Quick Trip, Circle K, and Walmart are still $1.999 on regular and the Chevron and Exxon that are nearby are at $2.099. But other than those 5, I think it's $2.249 and up on gas, $2.489 and up on diesel. Those 5 were all very busy, but the waiting lines were short.:D
