Tractor
PowerTrac 1850, Kubota RTV x900
I pretty much well have only one set of tools, not a lot of duplicates so next week it is off to hardware shop. I have a list of what I think I might need on the tractor, but am interested to see what others have. I really don't want to overload, but I hate walking up my hill.

Never what I need.

I'm not at my house when working, i'm on the road, I have a big box for the truck and another smaller hand carried one also in the truck.
But i never have what I need.
I usually have enough to jury rig it, but almost never exactly it.
I've been lucky so far. :D

Channellock groove pliers, Vice Grip pliers, Crescent wrench, fence pliers, and a couple screw drivers. Also an assortment of pins for the 3ph, and a few shear pins with nuts. That fills my toolbox and saves me a walk most of the time.

I also havew only one primary set of tools. Keep them in a tool box that is a pain to lift its so heavy. I put it in my truck when I go down to my property. The toolbox on the tractor is too small and needs upgrading. Just like Ford850, I keep those tools that are good at a lot of things but not great for any one thing. They are just for quick fixes.

I would like more and better primary tools. Then I'd get a bigger and better box on the tractor and put some of my old tools in it. Still just the bare necessities. I don't do major stuff in the field.

Save room for a lot of extra pins for 3 pt hook up stuff!! If your tractor really breaks down in the field, you aren't going to have what you need on board. Leather work gloves and a water bottle will come in handy!

Added a 30mm impact socket to my garage tool box to remove the blades off my Kubota 60" mmm. Within my Kubota tool box I have some spare pins, clips, screwdriver and Channel locks, etc.

10mm and 12mm combination wrenches as these are used when the bottom of the fuel tank is checked for debris.

/ Whats in your toolbox #8
12" thumbwrench, some sort of Channel locks, a hammer, one of those combo screwdrivers and a handful of nails and pins.

I've a tool pouch that one normally wears wrapped around the top of the left FEL tower on my tractor. I also have an old leather brief case hanging from the brush guard in front.

In the tool belt, I've channel locks, needle nose, big tin snips scissors (use these for limb/vine pruning of stuff in my way), multi screw driver, pocket knife, vise grips. I've a fairly heavy short handled hammer and ice pick in the leather brief case.

All my tractors have their "oem toolbox" which is generally smaller than I'd like. Those boxes get the small stuff. Linch pins, a roll of baling wire, a roll of electrcial tape, a couple screwdrivers, channellocks, a cresent wrench, a pair of fence pliers, needle nosed vice grips, hitch pins, a few odd bolts/nuts/washers, a couple shop towels, and the obligatory hammer.

One of the things that John Deere offered over the years that I've come to ADORE is the toolboxes that were first offered on the 30 series tractors in 1973. It's about 8" X 9" X 18", with a lift out tray, and a VERY secure mount that allows the box to be removed with the pull of a small pin. I've adapted the mount so that they'll bolt on to every tractor I own, then each tractor has it's own "permanent" mount installed. . I keep one box filled with baler items, one with planter parts, another with sickle bar stuff, one with fence building junk, ect..... Altogether, I've got 7 of these "use specific" boxes ready to slap on the tractor of the day and head to the field. The right tools go with the right implement that way. No need to carry everything or search from tool box to toolbox to find what I need. Nothing like being able to fix things in the field and NOT have to drive back to the house every time something goes wrong. I even keep old copies of manuals in a few tool kits. (i.e. baler) I've even got one box stuffed with "chainsaw stuff" for wood cutting season.

I'm surprised that no one carries a roll of soft white paper for those times!:D :D

CNH offered that as well.. at least on the XX10s series ( perhaps others? )

A decent detachable box that pins ont he bellhousing very securely, and has a handle on it.. a VERY good feature as you point out.

I'm sure just about every brand has had their rendition of the Deere box. Massey's came with a simular box as an option by the 200 series. The 100 series boxes were bolted to the fender. The Deere box is just one of those things that just "works good" and is available on ebay for a LOT less than Mother Deere charges. (ANYTHING that Deere sells is costly!) And because it's "Deere" the bootlegs and knock-offs are plentiful. They seem to hold far more than their relatively compact size would indicate possible. Being able to take it off the tractor and carry it to where the action is makes these things worth their weight in gold..... just not worth their weight in GREEN & YELLOW. ;)

I'm fairly certain I could bolt my 28 drawer Snap-On roll-around to a tractor and STILL not have everything I needed when something breaks though. ;)

An extra spark plug (old H Farmall tends to foul plug), along with rag, pliers, hammer, screwdrivers, clips and pins. On initial startup in spring, sometimes dirtdobber nest and/or spiders.
