What's the most profitable way make cash, farming

I do not know if a person can get into farming and expect to make a lot of money. I think the majority of people farm for the love of it. We do it to grow our own beef and to help out on taxes. We do make a little money on the cows that we take to market but re-invest that money back into the farm. My wife wants to start making her own butter, cheese, and grow her own vegatables.
We are looking at the possibility of getting into the mini- cattle business. Currently we run full size Herefords but the mini-hereford cattle intrigue us. Just another way to diverify. Does anyone have any experience with the mini-cattle?

My experience is limited but we raised a few "Dexter" cows for a couple of years. Super easy keepers, easy calving, and pretty tame and fun really. My buddy has scottish highland and dexters and they both are apparently really easy.

It was kind of cute too, they're so little. I kind of miss having them.

our blueberry farmers in BC are making between $8000 - $20,000 per acre depends on if they are organic and selling through the processing plant or on side of road but it takes 5 years to get to near full prodution and setting up irrigation and planting is exspensive $10-20k per acre

On a per acre bases selling container nursery stock does well, but when the housing market crashes so does the nursery biz and its a year round endeavor with many opportunities to fight with nature. The profit margins are low and often many plants are growing for years before they are marketable. Landscape installation makes more money than just selling the plants. Either way it tough to.make a living nowadays, but I wouldn't want to do anything else.
