What\'s the tractor used for now, that...

I remember reading quite a few threads in the past about people needing tractors because of housing contrsuction, land clearing, etc. Now that the house is built and/or the land cleared what are you using your tractors for now? If you aren't done yet but are close, what do you forsee using it for? I'm just curious what fellow TBNers are doing now that the big jobs are done.

Funny you should ask....This year I finished site prep for my new steel building, raised the whole site 40" above flood plane. Then brought in 200 more yards of fill, poured another slab and added a DW mobile home...I was getting a little nervous so I bid on a 2.4 acre foreclosure next door....and I think I got it.

So now I can't sell my tractor.

We bought a big used tractor to do the hard stuff with the intention of selling it and getting a small one for daily use. However, I got it messed up, because I bought the smaller one for daily use three years ago and have not yet sold the big one... wife isn't too happy with that procrastination /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I got a lot of my bigger jobs done. My pole barn is in, my driveway is in, my house is up, my utilities are in, but I still have several areas on my property that needs a lot of work.
I don't think I will ever run out of smaller jobs !!
I still have a 5 or 6 acre lawn to keep mowed, a garden to till, and 9 acres of field to maintain, so my tractor will always be busy.

Jay, I never had a big machine to start with. However, if others have the same rural living as we do, you never run out of jobs. Fighting Mother Nature is a never-ending task. Otherwise, wouldn't you get bored??

Put about 2hrs. on mine last night and this morning. Got home last night and couldn't get the 2wd. pickup up the hill so I left it on the other side of the dam and walked in. Plowed the hill next and then tried to drive in. Guess what...made it halfway up the hill and started sliding backwards. That's some scary @#$(%. I guess I slid about 20 ft. or so before it stopped. I hooked the 3710 up to the truck and towed it up the hill with my wife driving the truck. Plowed the stuffin out of the hill this morning and got it clean enough for the 2wd. now.

Come this spring the tractor will be drilling about 100 post holes and stretching fence along with preping the ground for the round pen. Then it will be raising the loafing shed up about 2 ft. and preping the ground underneath it so it stays a little drier inside. I just hope my wife and I can keep up with the tractor.

Brush hogging, tilling, snow removal and driveway maint. I'm glad I went big, (L3710).

I have never seen anyone with over 1/4 acre who was ever anywhere close to being "done".

I told my wife I wanted to sell the old 8N a few years ago because I thought I was "done". She said no because it was "cute". Little did I realize that the work was only starting.

I have a ditch that fills with silt from the rain runoff and has to be cleaned out periodically. And the trees and privet hedge keep growing every year. And there is always some area that could use a little improvement.

I have now graduated to a B7510 with FEL and bush hog and there is no end in sight to the work that needs to be done.

I told a friend the other day that the timeline for this project is years, not months.

And then there is the friend who needs a pile of dirt moved and another friend who needs a back yard leveled and some old bushes taken out, you get the idea.

I'm using my 8N to pull a 6ft mower...6.5 acres
The 8N looks and runs like new, I'm king when on that thing /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
Also have a 1953 Jubilee thats being restored, just to look at /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
My Branson 4720 47hp with a loader and B-hole do all the dirty work.
And I still have years left of dirty work!!
Anyway just used it to haul 3 bucket loads of fire wood up to the house.
I got 2 gravel driveways to maintain also.
It's never ending what you can do with a tractor and FEL
Keep it, you'll use it! and like Bill said we all have friends /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
