What's the word on the 2012 Ram?

I just took our 1994 dodge ram in for some work at the local dodge dealership (this trucks 2nd home)...and went to look at the new 1 ton diesel they had in the showroom. Nice enough looking rig...with a sticker price of $54,950.00.

ok...are you guys out of your minds. How could anyone seriously spend 54K on a truck.

For 90-100k i could buy a foreclosed 3br, 2-1/2 bath home in town and rent iot out at 1,000-1,200 / month. These prices on trucks have gotten way out of hand.

90-100k foreclosure would be a real s.h.it hole around here lol. serously though, 54k is a sticker price for a cummins fully loaded. The engine and drivetrain itself is 9k option. Nobody is going to pay sticker anyhow. your lookin at aboutt 45k fully loaded. **** price out an gas powered full size chevy dodge or ford that is loaded and your gonna pay close to 40k easily. Bump up to a diesel and your gonna have to spend more. Nothing has really changed much unlesss you havent priced out a truck since the 94 you own. :thumbsup:

well its all relative. i am looking at a 2008 3 bedroom rancher to be used as a rental, short sale for 95,000. was listed at 145,000. back in 2009 was selling at 185,000. never been lived in. will generate aprox $1,000/month rental income.

I have a 2005 f350 that i bought in 2008 (DECEMBER 2008) for $16,000 plus tax on a used car lot. had sticker in glove box of $44,000 or something like that. Just the fact that a 3-4 yo truck would sell for nearly 60% loss of value just shows you what a horible investment any new vehicle is.

My only concern with the newer Rams relates to the class action suit on the engines and I know of two 2011/2012 owners that have eaten turbos with low mileage.

I think you got a good truck and will enjoy it.

You have got to be kidding me on the class action suites right? Google "Chevy Dmax class action suits" and read about that. It mostly appears to be over injectors. You can google just about anything and get all the negative press you want. There are class action suits on just about anything because attorneys want money.

Chris, I traded my 06 LBZ in on a 12 GMC CCSB SLT. So far nice truck and I like that it sits up higher. I hate the DEF tank but it has the 6" oval steps so you can't really see it.

DodgeMan - no I of course don't go by that alone. I hate leaches, I mean lawyers, so I get how the game works. What concerns me is the newer Dodge's that toasted turbos and whether that is a true sign of a larger issue or not. To be completely fair though, I lost a turbo in my 06 at 90k miles too, so it can happen to anyone.

I wasn't worried about the widespread turbo problems until mine went TU at 10,000 miles on my Dodge 6.7. I did some research, ordered some aftermarket parts, and shaved some weight off my truck. haven't had a problem since. Gained 2-3 mpgs too.

It's the only way to roll with a Dodge 6.7.

I purchased mine 7 mnths ago(46,800).It went into the shop last week for heater relay,was in a day(warrenty) and the dealer done free service(9000miles on it)).We just got back from a 700 mile trip for city/interstate driving it got 13.8 mpg penciled out,truck showed 15.2 average. The crewcab has alot of room,I have been really pleased with it and would do it again...

He's the not the OP that was looking for a larger replacement for his GM truck.

The class action suit was against 2008-2010 diesel RAM's and never really materialized. Hardly an actual class action "problem" like GM's injectors or Ford's head gaskets.

Yeah, I am just stating what I looked for and what made me nervous since I was looking for a new truck. Ultimately it was the loyalty dollars that made the final decision for me more than anything. A coworker has an 11 Ram dually and it has been good other than a radio issue and the recall that just came out for one of the tie rods (his goes in next week for replacement). My neighbor just bought a 12 Ram a couple weeks before I bought my truck so I should be able to compare more as time goes on. Hopefully they'll both be great trucks. I don't wish ill will on any of the big 3.
