Do our friends in the US have the same problem?

Lately our news media has embraced "what it feels like" temperatures instead of reporting the "thermometer temperature"

Today's high is being reported as "we will see our high at what feels like -25oC" instead of "our high today is -11oC with a light breeze"

In winter the media are reporting a fake "what it feels like" calculated number vs the actual temperature based on the wind speed. The higher the wind speed, the colder "it feels".

In summer they ignore wind speed and report the "humidex temperature" which is a calculated number to make the temperature "feel warmer". So if it's 21oC (aka room temperature) they will report a humidex temperature that "it feels 30oC". But if you waved your arms the wind chill would make it "feel like" +15oC.

I think they should start reporting what it feels like to include other special interest groups.

"Today's high is -11oC. It feels like -25oC with the wind chill to many people. If you are over 80 then today's temperature feels like -50oC. If you are in menopause then today could feel like -30oC or +30oC indoors."

Climate hysteria
The “what it feels like” indexes are always higher or lower than the actual temps.
The attempt is to train us that temps are more extreme than they really are.

You are talking about constructed headlines (composed for grabbing the attention of gullible consumers - i.e. you and me) not accurate reportage.
Sidebar - I refuse to call propaganda journalism any longer it's all the big lie. Term it agitprop, much more appropriate.

I never really considered that they ignore wind in the summer "feels like" calculation, and only use humidity.
That certainly explains why I never feel particularly uncomfortable mowing all summer at 4-5 mph!

Actually many of us older Canadians have been multi tasking, in regard to our interpretation of temperature, for decades now because we have been on metric system for decades and use the Celsius scale for temperature. So although we ignore the wind chill and humidex we do set our indoor furnace and AC thermostats using the more accurate Farenheit scale :) Now the typical kids here don't understand the Farenheit scale and any extremes like windchill are skillfully used by them to bum a ride . However most all of them are bussed to school anyway, but that is for their own safety, or else they would incur numerous head injuries walking into sign posts or telephone poles due to their eyes buried in their cell phones. :) Now they also would incur that weather reported windchill on their running shoe feet because boots aren't cool. So have pity on us Canadians as we multi task our weather conditions. ......signed a curmudgeon older Canadian. :)

Another really annoying trend that seemed to have started a few years ago is when they say something like "60 million people are under the threat of [choose one] rain/snow/ice/warm gentle breeze......"

run for the hills!!!

I would say youre very lucky if that’s all they give opinion vs fact on. Every time I hear the news now it’s less fact based.

This is the same as everything else done by media to get attention and clicks, not sure if this is the media that are dumb our the collective IQ going down, it's all over the western world.

I get annoyed at the way forecasters build up minor storms and/or sub freezing temps. “Heavy snow tomorrow, 3-5 inches.” Make up your mind, which is it going to be? Or “bitter cold, temps down to 20 degrees.” I call 20 degrees good working conditions, although if there’s snow on the trees I prefer it closer to 0’ F, I can stay drier as the snow doesn’t melt.

Down here 20 degrees is bitter cold. We're under a Winter Storm Watch right now. It's 36F now and dropping. The "wind chill" is expected to be in the teens. That's dang cold for this part of the U.S. Driving up I-35 to the big city last Saturday, I saw most of the farmers already had fields plowed/disked and ready for planting. Some may have already planted.

I'm still trying to mow grass but it's been too wet. This freeze should take care of it.

Still sells, doesnt it?
I’ll never forget we were building a construction project (townhomes) and we built all the decks on the back with circular stairways down to the ground because of property line setbacks. The circular staircase supplier sends their saleswoman out to sell us on their design, quality and pricing. Shows up dressed like the weather gal above, but even more “appealing”. Guys on the job site are falling, dropping stuff, walking into walls. Lol
The owner of the company calls me that evening to give me the hard sell on the staircases. The staircases were excellent quality and would have sold no matter who the salesperson was. I commented to him something to the affect “thats some salesperson you have there…..very good at selling”.
We bought their circular stairs contract.
”works everytime” he said. “She’s my closer”

We are up to 10 degrees now this morning and sunny. But the wind is 14 MPH, so FELLS LIKE -5 degrees. It is pretty cold for us, still have a skiff of snow on the ground, but some of it has sublimed.

In my findings, weather folks can do a lot of things, but predicting the weather is not one of them. :) At least not with any great accuracy very far into the future.

Ok, for those that don't spend any time outside. It's useful to know what the "wind chill" is as it give an indication of how fast things will cool down. Your body and machinery. Now im old enough to remember before wind chill was reported so us "old" people learned to look outside and if the snow is blowing sideways, it's going to be colder than a witches... :)

Canadians are weird and march to their own drums. Whenever I start ragging on Canadians for their ass backwards way of thinking...I'm reminded with this...
