I boom sprayed 90 acres of national cemetery last week. It took 3 days, i burned 18 gallons of diesel. Kubota B3030 HSDC demco pto boom sprayer.

OK. I'll add mine too...a little better than 1/2 gallon per hour cutting the weeds at about 2000 RPM. 20HP China tractor.

I just finished rough cutting 10 acres. Ran the tractor (Deere 3520) for 6.5 hours and it took less than half a tank of fuel. With a 13 gallon tank, that comes out somewhere just under 1 gallon per hour. Not too bad for running at PTO speed. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

My bad. Though i have an excuse. I'm recovering from food poisoning.. Hard to concentrate on the thread with the laptop ballancing on you lap while setting on the white throne, and vomiting into the trash can /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

i used .6 gph in my cub 7530 mowing 2 to 3 foot weeds with a 5ft brush hog at rated pto rpm. i was amazed and am thinking i should drive this thing to work everyday considering the cost of fuel its just that i'd have to leave a few hours ealier with a top speed of 12 mph

I owned an international 500c dozer which is a 10,000 lb 45 HP machine and it burned 1 gallon of diesel per hour. I know the D3 is a little bit bigger but the fuel consumption on your cat seems too high. A HP is a HP and your dozer shouldn't use much more fuel than an equal HP tractor when they are both working.

Every motor/tractor is different. I run an 8430 4wd John Deere with a 21' folding wing disc, and use about 5.5 gallons per hour. The other halfs uncle has a Stieger, about the same hp, with the same size disc, in the same soil (half mile away), and he uses 10GPH!!!! Needless to say he's not too happy with his new to him tractor. )</font>

Acording to Nebraska Test #1179 a JD 8430's fuel consumption is 11.8 GPH. I know of a good number of 8430"s and they use more than 5.5 GPH just driving down the road.
What model is the Steiger???

I have not seen his tractor yet. He just got it this spring, never asked which model.

Well, don't know what to tell you on the 8430, that's what we get. We don't plow, just pull the folding wing and offset disc with it. She does run clean though, the only time smoke comes out the stack is when the throttle is opened up. The injector system is good, it fires up in sub zero temps. Grandpa has been running the family farm for 54 years, and has alway's tracked numbers very closely. He is really good with numbers. He has been very pleased with this tractor. He got rid of the 7020 becouse it was a pig on fuel. He's so good with the numbers and fuel use, he can tell you how much fuel is in each tractor becouse he knows how long it has been used, and what for. Some of the fuel rate is also the quality of the fuel too. We buy fuel 5000 gallons at a time from a very good source.
